Super Six Favorite Books of 2013
I set a low goal of 40 for total books read this year on Goodreads, and I’ve far surpassed it with 67 read this year. Some books have stood out head and shoulders above most, and I’d like to share those with you today–some are popular, and some should be more popular!
The Fury by British horror master Alexander Gordon Smith is seriously one of the best books I’ve read in a few years. Dark, compelling, fantastic storytelling that I had a hard time putting down. Don’t let the near-700 page size scare you away–this book is totally worth every second of your time. (Goodreads / Amazon / My Review)
The fifth installment in Darynda Jones’ Charley Davidson reaper series was even better than the previous books. With deeper world building mythology and more surprises from Reyes and her family, this one left me absolutely needing the next book ASAP! (Goodreads / Amazon / Danny and My Review)
I read several horror novels this year, and J.L. Bryan’s latest novel, The Unseen definitely delivered on the dark, dangerous, and creepy factor with a girl who can see creatures and demons who exist on another plane parallel to ours while a sinister satanic cult are trying to recruit members in her city. When the cult sets their sights on her brother, all hell starts to break loose quite literally. (Goodreads / Amazon / My Review)
These books just keep getting better and better. Crash Into You is definitely my favorite one so far out of the three Pushing the Limits series books. With fast cars, wounded boy Isaiah and just as messed up girl Rachel, their story is both swoon-worthy and hard to not read in one sitting. (Goodreads / Amazon / Joint Bookworms Review coming soon)
Brilliance was everything I look for in a hard boiled thriller with a futuristic twist. With some people in the population are born gifted with powers making them more advanced than the average person, this book highlights the problems in our world and ramps them up to what can be in a future where differences are persecuted to the max. I really liked this return to vampires being dangerous and cold-blooded killing machines, and listening to the audiobook probably made me enjoy this more than reading the book would have. The way people were infected, go cold, and put into “Cold towns” was also refreshing. (Goodreads / Amazon / My Review – coming in January 2014)
Karina Halle can write a series featuring a female con artist, a smoking hot tattoo artist gone bad to protect his childhood best friend, and an equally hot and very dangerous Cartel leader hell bent on getting revenge, making all of these characters extremely sympathetic and understandable. This complete series is sexy, violent, dangerous, thrilling, and addicting. I am about an hour into the audiobook THE COLDEST GIRL IN COLDTOWN and I am having a hard time keeping interested. But as it is one of your best reads of the year I think I need to give it a little more effort 🙂
I love horror, so I am going to take a look at a few of your other selections too.

The audiobook for The Coldest Girl in Coldtown takes a little bit to pick up, but once it does, it gets really good. I really like how they use creepy music to highlight the intense parts of the story too. Just give it some more time, Chrizette 🙂

Halle’s Artists series is amazing! I highly recommend reading them all one right after the other, with the novella in between books 1 and 2.

I absolutely LOVED Crash Into You, but pretty much anything that Katie McGarry writes is going to catch my attention and make love it probably. It was definitely in my top ten anticipated books for this year and I loved getting to see Isaiah’s story. 🙂

The Coldest Girl in Coldtown is definitely making my list of favorite books of 2013. That book restored my faith in vampires. I agree that I really liked how the vampires were deadly, scary things, and that the originality of the coldtowns was also so much fun to read.

Welcome, Elena! Darynda Jones’ Charley Davidson series is amazing. If you like crime/mystery series with a paranormal twist, you’ll probably enjoy this series. Plus, there’s the added romance. It’s great and I highly recommend the books.
