Tessa McCaide has a unique talent for getting into trouble. Then again, it isn’t easy for a girl with visions to ignore what she sees. Luckily Tessa and her family are leaving California and moving halfway across the country, giving her the perfect opportunity to leave her reputation as “Freaky Tessa” behind.

But Tessa doesn’t realize that kissing the wrong guy in her new Texas town could land her in far more trouble than she ever imagined. Like being forced to attend St. Ailbe’s Academy, a secret boarding school for werewolves.

Even if the wrong guy did accidentally turn her into one of “them” and doom her to attending the weirdest high school ever, Tessa can’t help her growing attraction to the mysterious Dastien Laurent.

When vampires attack St. Alibe’s and her visions pinpoint an enemy in their midst, Tessa realizes that boy drama and her newfound canine tendencies might just be the least of her problems

Becoming Alpha seems to have everything I’m always looking for in a paranormal story, so I was eager to pick up this book from this new interesting publishing concept (More on this later below).

All The Right Ingredients

Becoming Alpha has all the right modules which makes this kind of stories to my kind of story. A Girl coming to powers she didn’t know she really had, a mysterious strong boy, mysteries to be uncovered and a boarding school.  When Tessa moves to California she meets Dastien the mysterious boy she feels incredibly drawn to, he life changes drastically and suddenly werewolves and all kinds of paranormal creates are real. More drastically, she’s one of them! …. and a strong one!

Forced to attend a boarding school that are just for paranormal kids like she is now, she now needs to learn how to deal with her abilities!

Romance, Friendship, Danger!

I’m not sure how much I like Tessa to be honest. She was strong and didn’t take crap from the people around her, but at the same time her stubbornness and strength were a little over the top and tempted to annoy me. Maybe it also had something to do with her being so “alpha”, but then again sometimes it just bothered me a little. Dastien was awesome and so super swoon worthy, here Aileen Erin definitely did everything right with him, giving him all the strength her needed for us to swoon over him, but then also some neediness that was way too cute! The romance was strong, yet I felt sometimes the chemistry was a little bit forced.

All together the story was great with lots of romance, some new friendships that added some laughter and warm heart melting moments and an overall story that was exciting and thrilling.  Some things, felt a little stereotypical and some elements felt a little like a formula put together.

Rating 3.5

Bottom Line

Becoming Alpha by Aileen Erin was an thrilling debut with lots of great unique and strong characters. A little stereotypical at some points, but still exciting enough for me to look forward reading the next book!

The concept of Ink Monster sounds great, promising us releases of series twice a year and lots of additional content. 1. Hm. I think this might be one of those series that starts off a touch rocky but then grows to be one I love. I see lots of love potential with the romance and the boarding school and Tessa’s gifts. I’m hoping you get lots of growth from Tessa in the next book and that she tones down her stubbornness a touch so you can connect better! Still, this definitely sounds like an “us” book for sure, so I’m keeping my eye on it:)
