Danny in Thailand – Reading Recap and Holiday Impressions

Posted 7 December, 2013 by Danny in Blog, Danny / 8 Comments

Hey Guys! I’m back!

In case you might have wondered where I am, I’ve been away for the last three weeks in some wonderful exotic country for my vacation with hubs and my parents. It’s been 3 weeks of awesomeness in Thailand and … guess what I did there?

  • Relaxing
  • Sun Bathing
  • Swimming
  • Eating lots of awesome Thai Food
  • and of course …. tons of reading

And today, I wanted to share some impression from my last three weeks and of course also share my Reading list with you! I was so lucky and read some amazing books!!

Becoming Alpha by Aileen Erin

Becoming Alpha (Alpha Girl #1) by Aileen Erin

This was the first book I read when I was starting my vacation at Munich Airport. It was a fun book, but it did not blow me away completely. I was annoyed a few times by the main character and I didn’t feel the chemistry … 3/5 Stars

The Bone Season by Samantha Shannon

The Bone Season (The Bone Season #1) by Samantha Shannon

Holy Cow! I didn’t know what I was missing when I passed on this book because the cover is.. well, boring! But Jenny (Supernatural Snark) told me it’s awesome so I read it! and .. OMG it’s solo awesome and I can’t wait for the next book! 5/5 Stars!

Sea of Shadows by Kelley Armstrong

Sea of Shadows (Age of Legends #1) by Kelley Armstrong

Being on a Paranomarl Trip, the next book I picked up was the new series from Kelley Armstrong. I’ve got to say that initially I was a little let down by the book. The first 50% were insanely boring but I’m so happy I stayed with the book then after this initial boringness the book finally started to be awesome! Hard to rate.. 3-4/5

Into The Still Blue by Veronica Rossi

Into the Still Blue (Under the Never Sky #3) by Veronica Rossi

So sad that this series is ending;( And … the ending was amazing! It had everything you wish for in a series ending. Heart Poding action, loss sacrifices and happiness!! 5/5 Stars

Death Sworn by Leah Cypess

Death Sworn (Death Sworn #1) by Leah Cypess

Absolutely loved the concept and setting of the book! I liked the story and I really loved the main character. There were some parts which were a too little flashed out in my opinion, but other than this it was a great book! 3.5-4/5 Starts

Avalon by Mindee Arnett

Avalon (Avalon #1) by Mindee Arnett

Ahhaa!!!!!!! Star Wars meets The Heist Society – this story was soooooo awesome and I’m so excited I read it! I was passing on it first, not being completely interested but now I’m so happy I read it. It was so much fun, so full of action with amazing characters and a thrilling plot! 5/5 Stars

…. and because I loved Avalon so much, the next book I read was Mindee’s first book:

The Nightmare Affair by Mindee Arnett

The Nightmare Affair (The Arkwell Academy #1) by Mindee Arnett

I loove Snarky Heroines and Dusty has tons of it! Another book Jenny told me is a must read and now I finally did and loved it! 4.5/5 stars

 TALKER 25 by Joshua McGune

TALKER 25 (TALKER 25 #1) by Joshua McCune

Dragons! Whenever I read the word “dragons” I’m hooked. So I hoped this book would be awesome and fun. Sadly it was …. not. I didn’t like the main character at all, the storyline was often confusing and I didn’t get a few part of the story… Then, the whole story is very violent and even though I’m not having a problem with that, it grossed me out here. It was too much and intended to shock the readers without real meaning. 1.5/5 stars

Promise of Shadows by Justine Ireland

Promise of Shadows by Justina Ireland

I remember when I saw the cover for the first time and fell in love. But then I was scared the amazing core wouldn’t live up to what’s inside. But YEAH it totally does! The book was so much fun! It had great wonderfully flawed characters and a great impressive story to tell! I’m so sad that this is not a series;( 5/5 Stars

And now, I’d love to share some random pics from my vacation for those interested 🙂

Loi Krathong

This is a beautiful festival celebrated in Thailand where you let small flower boats into a river.

Food & Drinks

Thai Food is just awesome! My favourite desert is Sticky Rice with Mango which I could seriously eat every day. Then, I had the best Pineapple Lichee Mojito ever and the most delicious Red Snapper, just to name a few…

Time to Relax

The Mandara Spa at our Hotel is one of the most beautiful ones in Phuket and I always go there at least onces even though it’s a little pricey. But.. *sigh* so worth it for body and mind!

And those were just a few impressions from my last three weeks. I just came back so I actually have to go through all my pictures to look for more. Needless to say I had a wonderful time and read some amazing books.

My bookish Highlights were “The Bone Season” and “Avalon”.

Now, that I’m back I also miss the warm weather as winter is finally here in Germany with ugly cold, snowish weather I need to get used to now. Do you have any plans to run front he cold weather and maybe go somewhere warm?

  1. AHHHHHHHHHHHHHH YOU’RE BACK!!!! YAY! I’ve missed you!!! I can’t even explain to you how excited I am that you loved The Bone Season and The Nightmare Affair. I love when you love books as much as I do (which thankfully is often). I just started Avalon and am really liking it so far, can’t wait to chat all about it with you!

Looks like you had an absolutely amazing trip, that JW resort is stunning. Maybe one of these years we can go on vacation together… somewhere other than NYC for BEA. Not that that isn’t fun of course:)

  2. Dani! Oh, I know you deserved that vacation!! I’m glad you enjoyed it and so many heads up on the books!! Thanks so I can add them to my list. I am loving the Bone Season, too! I didn’t know about Avalon so good to know! I always think you can’t go wrong with dragons, glad you read that one before I did. Oh, I know about Into the Still Blue. I haven’t read it yet, no ARC. Doesn’t matter, I have to have the book for the series on my shelf. My boys love it. I wish it would continue I was so blown away by the first book. That and Shatter Me and Incarnate and The Selection all seemed to come out around the same time. Sigh, end of an awesome era of trilogies 🙁

Show more pictures!! Thailand looks amazing! Sorry about the snowy cold but glad you’re home safe and sound!

  3. GORGEOUS! Your pictures looked like they came out of a magazine — now I want to go there even more!

You had some serious variety in your reading, too! Sad about the dragon book (boo!) and good to hear that Sea of Shadows picks up because I put it down about 1/2 way through ’cause I was bored. I think I have most of the rest of these on my Kindle…time to get reading! *hugs*

  4. So jealous Danny! Any trips planned to the US soon? We spent the weekend in Vegas. We had a horrible time getting back to Montana last night. Our flight out of Vegas was delayed two hours due to mechanical problems. Luckily our filght from Salt Lake was also delayed two hours for some reason. We thought we would make it, but the stupid airline chose to leave 5 minutes before our flight landed – with empty seats – despite knowing that we were trying to catch that flight. Then they told us we couldn’t catch a flight to Billings until Tuesday. Luckily Scott was persistent and got himself on the first flight out Monday morning and I took the second flight out. And also convinced Delta to pay for us to spend the night at the Marriott in Salt Lake. So now we are back in Billings for about two days before heading out again.
