Bewitched Highlights of 2013, a Bookish Resumé

Posted 31 December, 2013 by Danny in Blog, Bookworms / 19 Comments

This year is almost over and I’m sure every one of you has something planned for New Years Eve, be it staying home with your family, going out to have a fancy dinner with your loved ones, or going to a party to celebrate big.

We Bookworms would like to take the opportunity to recap our bookish Highlights and wish you a fabulous New Years Eve!

Danny’s Bookish Highlights

It’s been a fabulous bookish year! I read so many amazing books and got to know so many wonderful Authors it’s hard to pick my Highlights. In terms of statistics, I met my quota and even read some more. I planned to read 150 books and I finished today with 157 books!

12 Months – 156 Books

Woot!

It’s a little less than last year, but it still feels like an awful lot!

Among the 5 Star rated books I picked now 4 to be my abolsute favourites and damn, this was hard to choose! I choose 2 Contemporaries and 2 Paranormal/Fantasy Books and

*drum rolls*

Here they are…..

CrashIntoYoubyKatieMcGarry Fangirl

Crash Into You by Katie McGarry was definitely her best book yet, which say a lot considering that I love all her books so freaking much! Also, i LOOOOOVED Fangirl… It totally took me by surprise and I will never forget this cute wonderful story!

And here are my Paranormal, Scifi Top 2 Books!

These Broken Stars by Amie Kaufman & Meagan Spooner White Hot Kiss by Jennifer L Armentrout

These Broken Stars was such a wonderful story and I finally got all the hype surrounding these books. Adding White Hot Kiss is a little cheating since it will come out next year, But DAMN it was sooooo awesome!!!

Apart from these books, my other Highlight of course was going to BEA and apart from meeting wonderful Authors, I met many of my Blogging friends and I LOVED spending time with them!

Pushy’s Bookish Highlights

Wow, Danny!!  157 books!?!  I’m pretty impressed with my 72!  Still, I’ve been lucky enough to read some fabulous books this year!!  Here are a few that were my favorites:

siegeandstorm throughtheevernight

I also was lucky enough to go to BEA as you can see from Danny’s pictures above, although it doesn’t appear to be in the cards for 2014.  Still, I’ll cheer everyone on from home, that’s for sure!!

Another exciting development in 2013 for me was the formation of a real life book club to compliment the amazing group of folks I get to squee over books with online!  It’s been interesting trying to balance everyone’s tastes but it’s been fun so far!

Heather’s Bookish Highlights

While I didn’t read quite as many books as Danny and Pushy, I’ve read the most books that I’ve ever read in a year since I’ve started keeping track. I’m determined to finish Allegiant before 2013 ends, and that will put me at 68 books read this year. I set a lower goal for myself of 40 books so I could focus on both reading/reviewing and writing, and I’ll admit that reading books certainly won out since I read more than my goal.

My Super Six Sunday post focused on my favorite reads of 2013 (and like Danny, Crash Into You was on there), but here’s the covers of my favorites for 2013. See my post for why I loved these books.

While I didn’t go to BEA in 2013, I was with the girls in spirit. But I will remember 2013 as the year that I fell in love with audiobooks! Nothing compares to a brilliantly narrated book, and they’ve gotten me through some tough times as a government worker this year (especially when I was working for free 😉 – thank you, David Sedaris)

Best wishes for the new year, and we hope it’s full of great books!

  1. Fun post! I didn’t do too good with my reading total this year. Only about 100. I really need to step it up. I feel like I’ve been in a year long reading and blogging slump and I’d like to get out of it.

Love that BEA photo so much. Are you planning on going in 2014? I asked Jenny and she said they already have the hotel reservation. I’d like to go, but not sure yet what our plans will be.

I don’t know if I’m going yet, either! I hope we both get to go, though. I love that BEA photo, too! So much fun. Love hanging out with you all!!

    Happy New Year!
I also had a slight slump last year, but I’m determined to get out of it and change a few things.

I am DEFINITELY going to BEA and I’m already about to book my hotel and Flo is watching out for flights:)))

  2. What I would give to have the time to read 157 books… What’s really sad is that I haven’t read most of these books. Actually, I’ve only read These Broken Stars and Fangirl. Anyway, I’ll make sure to check these out. I hope for more books to come for your girls this 2014! 🙂

  3. I think I’m around 170-180 books read this year (YOWZERS!!!!) and there were some AWESOME books in that pile (there were some seriously crappy ones, too, but let’s just forget about those, shall we?).

Pushy, I’m sad that you’re probably not going to be at BEA!!! Danny, are you going? I HOPE I’m going — it all depends on if my boss will let me off or not (it’s the second-to-last week of school so who knows). Happy New Year, ladies! Here’s to great one!

Wooottt so many books? I read as many last year, and I’m not entirely sure why I didn’t read so much this year…

Yeah, Pushy is not coming to BEA and I’m seriously sad about that.
But, yes I am definitely going and I’m soooo hoping you’re coming too Mary!! *hugs*
    Happy New Year!

  4. What a great year you all had! My year in books recap posted today too – I read just over 220!

Danny, I hear you on White Hot Kiss – one of my favorite of the year. And, Heather, I developed a love of audiobooks this year too.

I hope at least one of you amazing ladies will be at BEA 2014. I’ve already got my ticket and hotel booked – let the crazy anticipation begin. See you next year!

  5. Ah yes, These Broken Stars! I loved that book as well. I really wanted to get to Fangirl, but maybe in 2014. Wish I could manage BEA, but I live in California so it’s just too expensive:( Oh well, have a fabulous 2014!

  6. I love it- A Bookish Resume!!

Between the three of you that’s a lotta books! I’ve got favorites from each of your lists. Heather, I’ve started JL Bryan’s Unseen and it was spooky good. I’m hoping to get a chance to finish it soon. But it’s a great book! I’ll have to agree with you!

Hope you all have a Happy New Year!
