I guess all of you know that we are the biggest fans of Katie McGarry! We fell in love (deeeeeply) in love with Pushing The Limits, then we fell in love with Katie herself, then with all her other books.

Now, we are soo freaking excited being part of the Crash Into You Blog Tour! And… even though we love all her books, we think she outdid herself with CRASH INTO YOU! Seriously, you need to read it!

As part of the Blog Tour, we have something very special post for you. We actually talked to a fellow Blogger, Friend and Fan of Katie and her books about CRASH INTO YOU. So, please welcome the wonderful Rachel @fiktshun for a wonderful chat about the Aweomenness that is CRASH INTO YOU.

It was absolutely incredibly chatting with Rachel. I love and admire her deeply and she’s just a wonderful person, so it was more than exciting talking with her about our shared love for Katie and Crash Into You!

Rachel @ fiktshun

Rachel, thank you so much for coming here at the Bookworms today and talk about Crash Into You with us!

Thank you so much for having me. I am so excited to be talking about CRASH INTO YOU!

When we first meet Isaiah in Pushing The Limits he left such an intense impression and all through Dare You To my heart broke for him. Were you also hoping that he would end up with Beth in the beginning?

I loved Isaiah from the moment I read about him and my heart did go out to him, but I never wanted him to have a happy ending with Beth. I liked Beth a lot, but I always wanted someone for Isaiah who thought he was amazing, not someone who could possibly/maybe/might fall in love with him. I always thought he deserved someone whose heart beat a little faster whenever he was around. And I just knew that would never be Beth.

In Pushing The Limits and Dare You To we see an Isaiah so clearly in love with Beth.  How did the shift of his affections to Rachel feel to you?

I am someone who thinks you can never get over your first true love. And I still believe that. In reality and in fiction. I just don’t think what he had with Beth was true love. It was love, but it was one-sided. Beth never claimed to love him back the way he loved her. And without that connection, it made it easier for me to accept him developing feelings for Rachel. It made me happy for him.

If he spent all his time pining over Beth I wouldn’t have liked him as much. Or if she at some point decided to ditch Ryan and decide she wanted Isaiah, I would have been so mad if he dumped Rachel to be with her. So the shift, to me, felt right. It showed that while he loved Beth, he wasn’t totally hung up on her, even when he knew her feelings for him wouldn’t be the same. Oh, and it wasn’t an insta-love situation, so it felt natural for him to be moving on.

Rachel is a wonderful character, how would you describe her and what did you like most about her?

Rachel was awesome – and not just because of her name. J I would describe her as sweet and caring, maybe a bit of a people-pleaser, especially when it came to her family. But she had a bit of a wild side. So she was definitely not boring.

What did I like most about her? The fact that she didn’t judge Isaiah. Not for his looks, or his lifestyle. She accepted him and didn’t try to change who he was. She loved him for exactly who he was. Well, except for maybe that “glitch” in his personality about being overly protective. But that also showed that she had a backbone and strength, which wasn’t completely obvious at the beginning of the story.

Can I also say that I love that she knows cars? I think it’s totally cool that she wasn’t a girlie-girl.

Questions of strengths and weaknesses play a big role in the themes of this book.  What would you say Isaiah’s and Rachel’s biggest strengths and weaknesses are?

They do play a huge part in this story and in all the stories in this series. It’s one of the aspects to this series I love the most. And wow, this is a tough question.

But I’m going to talk about Rachel first because she’s a bit easier. Her biggest weakness is her need to please her family and her fear of standing up for herself. They cast her into a role from the moment she was born, and she chose to live up to that role so as not to upset her mother, father and brothers. She hurt herself in the process, both physically and mentally.

On the flip side of that is her compassion and caring, which are her greatest strengths. She didn’t just care for her family’s well-being, but for Isaiah’s. She didn’t let him take the fall, carry the burden for her mistake. She didn’t abandon him when she could have so easily done so.

Isaiah’s strength is that he’s a survivor. His strength is what helped Beth get by and it’s what kept him going when he could so easily have given up. Life was not easy for him, but instead of letting himself be the victim, he built himself up and learned how to survive without a family for support.

His strength is also his weakness. He’s built up such a wall around himself and doesn’t want to let anyone in. He doesn’t want to be abandoned like he was with his mom, and even Beth. It makes him overly protective of himself and of Rachel. And instead of looking to his friends for help, he tries to go it alone, which made everything so much harder.

Isaiah has a number of tattoos that have deep meaning to him. Do you have any tattoos or do you plan on getting any?

I have three tattoos. They don’t hold deep meaning for me, though. Not that they were frivolous. They’re just not overly symbolic. One of the three tattoos I want to get will be. But I’m not quite ready to get it yet. I have to find exactly the right artist to ink me.

I have a tribal rose on my shoulder/back (my first). I love that tat, but always forget I have it, since I never see it. I have a small blue heart/rose… elsewhere… and I have a larger heart with tribal thorns on my thigh.

I just love the way they look. So it was more about having the art versus the symbolism. I was a bit older when I got them so it wasn’t about raging against life’s injustices that spurred me on.

But I want a memorial tattoo, a skeleton tattoo (most likely based on a drawing that Parajunkee made for me) and a lotus blossom. Then I’ll be done.

Rachel and Isaiah both bond over the love for cars. Do you also love cars and which is your favorite one?

I love cars, well classic cars. The Mustang Shelby GT 1965 is a nice one. I have always wanted a 1960s ‘Stang. I wouldn’t know the first thing about fixing it. But owning one would be awesome.

Many of the characters we’ve met in Pushing the Limits and Dare You To make an appearance in Crash Into You. Who are you most excited to see?

Noah, of course. CRASH INTO YOU is my favorite of the three stories, but I will forever love Noah.

Going on step further, we also meet tons of new characters in Crash Into You, and I especially loved Rachel’s big family full of brothers. Which of the boys you liked most?

Well, if we’re only talking totally new characters, I love Ethan. I know that West is getting his own story, but I’d love there to be a novella about Ethan and a certain character I shall not name.

But if we’re talking characters we’ve already sort of met, I really adore Isaiah’s new friend, too. The reckless one, who I don’t want to name either as that would be spoiler-y.

Could you describe your feelings for Crash Into You in one or two sentences and what did you love most about it?

There’s no way I could do this book justice in just one or two sentences. But I will try to keep things brief and just say that I loved this book. It’s my favorite of the trio. It was romantic, and heart-wrenching and sweet and fragile and beautiful. I loved the two characters and the dual POVs. I loved the added element of danger in this installment. My heart ached for what both Rachel and Isaiah were going through even more so than any of the other characters in this series.

I was so worried this book would feel formulaic, as it’s now the third book in the series, but it was anything but. The familiar style and characters made it that much easier to reconnect, to fall back in love with this series. And being introduced to new characters that expanded the world made me that much more excited for the next installment.

CIYAbout CRASH INTO YOU

Release: November 26th 2013 by Harlequin Teen

From acclaimed author Katie McGarry comes an explosive new tale of a good girl with a reckless streak, a street-smart guy with nothing to lose, and a romance forged in the fast lane
The girl with straight As, designer clothes and the perfect life-that’s who people expect Rachel Young to be. So the private-school junior keeps secrets from her wealthy parents and overbearing brothers…and she’s just added two more to the list. One involves racing strangers down dark country roads in her Mustang GT. The other? Seventeen-year-old Isaiah Walker-a guy she has no business even talking to. But when the foster kid with the tattoos and intense gray eyes comes to her rescue, she can’t get him out of her mind.
Isaiah has secrets, too. About where he lives, and how he really feels about Rachel. The last thing he needs is to get tangled up with a rich girl who wants to slum it on the south side for kicks-no matter how angelic she might look.
But when their shared love of street racing puts both their lives in jeopardy, they have six weeks to come up with a way out. Six weeks to discover just how far they’ll go to save each other.

Great interview! I find it very interesting that you interviewed a fellow blogger, I don’t think I’ve ever seen that done before! I read Pushing the Limits and LOVED it, so I definitely have to get my hands on Dare You Too and Crash Into You.

  2. I can’t believe how much work it took to actually try and read Crash Into You before it’s BIG release. I was turn down by all publisher on Netgallery which I found strange since I’ve read Dare You To from Netgallery as well so I thought I would be most likely be approved. But nope and I was sad I really wanted to meet Isaiah and Rachel earlier, then I jump the hoop of asking on Edelweiss which I’ve only sign up for two months ago? So when I got the email after so many anagonzing weeks I Got it!

Oh wait . . . I was suppose to answer that blog question, well Fiktshun (Rachel) I love her honestly and not really trying to sugar coat it. I agree with her 100% on Beth and Isaiah not being a pair, I never got the vibe that they would be the coupling pair but I’m SO glad that Isaiah wasn’t left stuck in a little dark corner and we would never find out what happen to him.

Katie’s writing is amazing when it comes to a love story . . . two different half binding into one. I can’t wait to read more from her and meet new characters.

I loved the interview. It’s nice that there are new characters showing up. Does this mean there will be many more books in the series? I hope so :). Thank you.

  4. I read Dare You To before I even knew about Pushing the Limits (hate reading series books out of order, but what can you do?) and absolutely fell in love with her and her characters. They all feel so very real and I can picture everything in my head perfectly. I read Dare You To in one day, I could not just put it down! I’m very much excited to see Isaiah get his happy ending, especially after my heart broke for him during Dare You To!

  5. One of the reasons I love blogging is hearing about and commenting on how someone reacted to a book — especially a book I loved. And this was definitely one. Loved how Isaiah’s tats meant something to him. So many times, when you’re young, you don’t stop to think about how you’ll feel about tats in the long term but these work for Isaiah. Plus, they’re hot.

I’ve read and absolutely loved Katie McGarry’s first two books. They’re real in a way most YA/NA books aren’t. She writes so poetically it’s easy to immerse yourself in the characters and book. I’ve found myself surprised more than once when I noticed tears streaming down my face as I read. She’s just amazing.

  9. I felt SO bad for Isaiah in Dare You To! I mean, I knew that Beth belonged with Ryan but I just couldn’t help but feel for Isaiah. Then when I read an excerpt from Crash Into You and found out that the moment has come for some long-awaited Isaiah-time, I was STOKED. I don’t think I can adequately describe my excitement for this book to be released. Seriously. And I feel like EVERY book blogger I’ve heard from is getting everyone so HYPED about it because you all know it’s FANTASTIC, and one of THE most anticipated releases! I’m actually bouncing as I sit typing this comment out, that’s how thrilled I am about this book–OH THE SUSPENSE!

I just picked up a copy of Dare You To. I have finished Pushing the Limit and didn’t pay attention to Isaiah. Need to finish Dare You To. I do love Katie’s books after reading Pushing the Limit. She got me as a fan for her books.

  12. Ahhhhhhhh! YAY!!!!! I loved this book so much, it’s so nice to read just how much Rachel loved too. Nothing makes me happier than when other people love a book I love as much as I do:) I agree completely on what she said about Isaiah in relation to Beth – if he’d pined for her still in the beginning of Crash Into You, it definitely would have made his feelings for Rachel harder to believe in, but I felt like that though he was hurt, he wasn’t hanging on to what could have been. Absolutely wonderful interview ladies!

I’ve only read Pushing the Limits but I really enjoyed it and I liked how the two broken characters came together to heal one another.

  14. I love author interviews because I love the questions that are asked! My favourite part of this interview was seeing the author’s POV of her own characters and what they mean to her!

This book is on my TBR pile on goodreads, and I realllly want to read it! I’ve heard so many positive things about Katie McGarry and her books!

I skipped the parts of the interview that talked about the books because I haven’t read them yet. My sister has the first in the series and I hope to read it soon. It’s nice to see that all have good reviews so if I like the first book, there’s a good chance I’ll like the ones that follow!
