If you’ve been here earlier this week, you might have read my Review of SWEET by Erin McCarthy. It’s a wonderful New Adult Contemporary romance that I can wholeheartedly recommend to fans who love a wonderful Love Story!

Today, I have Erin on the Blog with whom I had the chance to chat about writing, her TRUE Believers Boys, Sequels and more !

Hey Erin, thank you so much for your time today. I am super excited for the opportunity to chat with you a little bit! I’m a he fan of your New Adult series and both, TRUE and SWEET are one of my favorite New Adult Books.

 Thanks for having me!

You wrote and published a lot of different stories and genres. What is it about New Adult that intrigued you to write TRUE and SWEET?

I love writing YA but I love NA even more because it is the age where you completely have the freedom to make all your own decisions, good or bad and you’re facing real life for the first time totally on your own.  Plus I have a super smart editor who recognized that I would enjoy writing the genre and suggested it. 😉

When you wrote and published TRUE, did you have always in mind to make it a series or did that just happen while writing?

Well, I knew that I wanted to at least write Riley’s story.  I didn’t necessarily think beyond that.  The characters all developed for me as I write the first two books and there was no question then that I had to do a book for all the friends/roomies.

If you’d have to choose between Tyler (TRUE) or Riley (SWEET), which boy would you choose?

Of course I adore them both for different reasons, but knowing myself, I would love to hang out with Riley, but I don’t think I could date him.  Confession: I don’t really like to be teased by a significant other when I am upset.  When I’m ticked off at you, if you try to tease me out of it, it gets ugly. I have a male friend very much like Riley and we get along fabulously because I’m not emotionally invested.  So for me personally, Tyler is more my style, because even though Riley is probably more honest and direct, Tyler is more serious and nurturing.
I must say that I might be even more (just a little) in love with Riley. He’s so down to earth, a hard working man who puts his family first. Still, he’s incredibly sexy with lots of attitude. What do you admire most about Riley?

His loyalty.  I think he would say that family is based on blood, brotherhood on loyalty.  Here is a guy who could just walk and leave his brothers to fend for themselves and he doesn’t.  How sexy is that?  Instead of being bitter about his fate, he is accepting of it and rolls with it.

Jessica was a very interesting girl. I loved her snarky attitude but I also admired that even though she’s coming from such a rich family she is not looking down on people who have less. How did you develop Jessica as a character? Did you first know her personality, or did you started with her backstory?

I always knew that there was more to Jessica than anyone could see in TRUE since we weren’t in her head.  She’s used to putting on the show, not being vulnerable and showing her true feelings.  Very early on, I knew she was a minister’s story, though I didn’t really reference it in TRUE because it wasn’t important to Rory’s storyline.

Can you tease us a little about what is coming next in the “True Believers” series? Maybe a quote? I must say that I am super excited about meeting Phoenix!!

Robin and Phoenix are both damaged and fragile people who find a way to heal together, and for Robin, help her figure out who she really is.

Here’s a short bit:

“’The bluebird carries the sky on his back.’  That’s Henry David Thoreau.”

“’No one is free, even the birds are chained to the sky,’” Phoenix said.  “That’s Bob Dylan.”

Turning my head toward Phoenix, I ran my tongue over my bottom lip, in a bit of awe of the moment, that I was here, like this, with him, someone I hadn’t even known two days earlier, and that the jagged edges of anxiety were being softened.  “Chained, carrying the sky… so burdened.”

“Yeah,” he murmured, and his hand shifted, his fingers entwining with mine.  His grip was loose, but solid.  “Poor birds.  Sucks to be them.”

We lay like that, holding hands, staring up at the sky, and for the first time in a very long time, I thought maybe I was going to be okay. Or at the very least like I wouldn’t shatter into a million pieces upon contact.

Thank you so much for your time Erin, and I cannot wait to read the next True Believers story!

Thanks! , Erin

Jessica Sweet thought going away to college would finally make her free of her parents’ constant judgments and insistence she play chastity club role model for their church events, but if anything, the freedom has made her realize she can’t go home and be a hypocrite anymore. Tired of dodging their questions, she stays at school over the summer and lands in an unexpected crash pad: Riley Mann’s house. Sarcastic, cocky, and full of opinions, Riley is also sexy personified with tattoos and biceps earned from working as a roofer all day. Not the right guy for her even if Jessica was looking for a relationship, which she is definitely not. But Jessica knows that Riley hides the burden of having to raise his younger brothers behind that grin and as she helps him get his house in order for a custody hearing, they begin to fall hard for each other, and she is forced to question what she’s hiding herself. Jessica has never had a problem getting naked with a guy, but when it comes to showing Riley how she truly feels inside, her fear of rejection may just ruin the best thing—the best guy—to ever happen to her…
