I’m happy to welcome today Geoff Herbach on the Blog who wrote a phenomeal Contemporary Series which follows a boy Felton on his way to become a Football star. The series begins with “Stupid Fast” where awkward Felton discovers that he’s super fast and then starts playing Football – now his whole life changes!
Also, thanks Geoff’s publicist you can win these books below!
Why does these book sound awesome?
- I LOVE male voices and Felton sounds awesome (see below)
- I LOVE sport themed books and after being addicted to Friday Night Lights I love American Football
- I saw Geoff Herback talking about his book 2 years ago at a Book of Wonder signing in New York – he’s amazing!
Please welcome Felton on the Blog today!!!
I am Felton. I’m with stupid.
My name is Felton Reinstein. That is not a fast name, but, seriously, I’m stupid fast. I didn’t ask to be so fast. What I wanted most when I was a wee little squirrel nut of a boy was to be funny, except nobody found me funny at all. At least, not when I was trying to be funny. I got knocked around a lot.
Then, I grew. Fast. Huge. Out of no place. Like pro football huge. I had no idea where this growth came from. My mom, Jerri, used to be a hippy lady with jangling bells sewn into her skirts. She played guitar and sang songs. She wrote poetry. She is not big or fast.
Dad. When I was five years old, I found him dead in the garage. Hanging. He did it to himself. For my whole life, Jerri told me that Dad was a short, fat, sad Jewish dude. Turns out that wasn’t the case at all. Turns out he was like me.
I am like him.
For all of high school, now, I’ve run and run. I turned into the best football player in the state of Wisconsin. Maybe one of the best ever. But, along the way, I lost friends. I hurt my little brother, Andrew, who plays piano. I lost the only girlfriend I ever had. I don’t know why. It’s like I’m me and I know I’m me, but someone else is driving. I run and run, but you can’t run forever.
Sometime. Some day. You have to stop and face the facts. My dad is a fact. What he did is a fact. Who I am is fact. You can’t ever get away from yourself, you know?
The fact is, I’m with stupid.
sooo, don’t you want to meet Feldon now too?!?! I certainly do!!
About The Books
Stupid Fast by Geoff Herbach – Book 1
Published June 1st 2011 by Sourcebooks Fire
I, Felton Reinstein, am Stupid Fast. Seriously. The upper classmen used to call me Squirrel Nut, because I was little and jumpy. Then, during sophomore year, I got tall and huge and so fast the gym teachers in their tight shorts fell all over themselves. During summer, three things happened all at once. First, the pee-smelling jocks in my grade got me to work out for football, even though I had no intention of playing. Second, on my paper route the most beautiful girl I have ever seen moved in and played piano at 6 a.m. Third, my mom, who never drinks, had some wine, slept in her car, stopped weeding the garden, then took my TV and put it in her room and decided she wouldn’t get out of bed.
Listen, I have not had much success in my life. But suddenly I’m riding around in a jock’s pick-up truck? Suddenly I’m invited to go on walks with beautiful girls? So, it’s understandable that when my little brother stopped playing piano and began to dress like a pirate I didn’t pay much attention. That I didn’t want to deal with my mom coming apart.
Nothing Special by Geoff Herbach – Book 2

Hey Aleah,
I miss you. Because there’s some serious donkey crap going on right now. I’m supposed to be at football camp, but noooo … Andrew had to go missing! So because of my stupid little brother, I’ll probably lose my chance at a scholarship and end up being nothing special.I’m pretty sure Andrew ran away to Florida, and now Gus and I have to drive cross-country to get him. Did you know Gus used to think
Miss Piggy was hot? Anyway, Andrew once told me I needed to get my head out of my butt. So that’s what I’m trying to do. How about a kiss for luck?Felton
“Readers looking for a genuinely memorable first-person narrator–in the vein of Sherman Alexie’s Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian or Pete Hautman’s Godless– should really catch up to Stupid Fast.”–StarTribune
I’m With Stupid by Geoff Herbach

Felton Reinstein has never been good with stress. Which is why he’s seriously freaking out. Announcing his college choice on national TV?
It’s a heart attack waiting to happen. Deciding on a major for the
next four years of his life? Ridiculous! He barely even knows who he
is anymore without football. And so…he embarks on The Epic Quest to
Be Meaningful.Which leads to:
1. Mentoring a freshman called Pig Boy.
2. The entire state of Wisconsin hating him.
3. His track coach suspending him.
4. The funniest viral video the world has ever seen.
5. A whole new appreciation for his family, his friends and what
what’s really important in life.

I have not met Felton yet even though I own Stupid Fast. I keep meaning to read it. I don’t typically read sports books but those that I have are often very good, like Miranda Kenneally’s books.

I haven’t met Felton but he looks like a very funny guy and I’m not really into sports books but maybe that’s because I haven’t read this one!

I love male POVs and like a lot of male YA authors, too. While I’m not always the biggest fan of sports-themed books, I’ve had a lot of luck with them when the characterizations are also strong. 🙂
No need to enter me in the giveaway, just thanks for featuring this today! This one wasn’t on my radar at all, but it sounds like it could be fun.

I remember when Stupid Fast came out. I thought it sounded like a great book, but like so many others, it’s on my TBR list. I haven’t gotten around to it. I haven’t really read any sports themed books. I have one to read. Maybe two. But I love stories told from the Male POV. I’d love to meet Felton!
