Flukes by Nichole Chase  on goodreads:

Meena has a secret guarded closely by her family—a secret as dangerous as the sea and buried just as deep. When court-appointed community-service workers are assigned to Flukes, the family-owned animal sanctuary, everyone is on high alert. It doesn’t help that Meena finds herself attracted to sexy-as-sin Blake Weathering, one of the new workers.

If he wasn’t so distracting, she might be able to land Flukes a much-needed cruise-line contract. Blake Weathering, the first in his family to attend public school, has developed a tough image. Unfortunately, it lands him in trouble. Now banned from his high school graduation ceremony, getting his diploma is dependent upon a community-service gig cleaning up fish crap. No diploma, no trust fund fortune—and no way to escape his overbearing father. The last thing he needs is the distraction of a mysterious girl with teal eyes who pulls at his heartstrings.

When Blake discovers Meena’s secret, they are both thrown into a desperate search for information about her past. Two worlds pull them in opposite directions, and they will have to fight to hold on to all that really matters

Hach, I love it when I read a review from a trusted blogger, go and buy the book and then love it just as much! Ashley from Book Nook reviewed this book a while back and I got it the minute I finished her review!

New Adult with a Paranormal Twist and a Beautiful Caribbean Setting

While I was reading Flukes, I was also just spending time in the Caribbean so for me the book just came in perfectly. The story is set in the Bahamas with a beautiful scenery that makes it easy to get sucked into the story and just dream! Apart from the setting, the whole story is beautifully crafted with paranormal twist that makes this story stand out so much! Of course, the paranormal twist is not hard to guess, but still, everything played together perfectly.

Meena – Innocence and Fierceness

I loved Meena instantly. Even though she was parts shy and full of innocence there was also a strong woman inside of her and I love this combo a lot. It made Meena lovable and a cute and genuine character everyone will easily let into her heart. She grew up very protected, homeschooled and doesn’t have a lot of friends. But, the best friend she has, she loves and trusts deeply and even told her about her secret. I always love when best friends are not shut out when it comes to secrets, this is something that always bothers me in other stories. I also adored Meena’s parents and their relationship. It was beautiful and heartwarming!

Blake – Oh bad Boy with Heart!

Gorgeous, rich and bad boy image! YES Blake fits easily in the beloved bad boy we all love so much in YA and NA literature! (at least I do …) Blake starts being a jerk, someone who just has money and isn’t used to work for his money. But, once we get to know Blake better, we know everything is just a facade and those are the moments we love the most – when we discover the inside of the characters. Meena and Blake were a great and utterly cute romantic couple! It took both of them sometime to trust each other, to open up their hearts – but it was slow, playful and romantic!

Bottom Line

Flukes by Nichole Chase was an utterly cute romantic New Adult tale with a paranormal twist. It comes with great, strongly developed characters that we all fall in love with so very easy. It’s filled with mysteries, heartbreak and sweet romance. Fans of New Adult who also love a good paranormal story will need to put Flukes on their every growing TBR pile!

  1. I haven’t read any New Adult paranormal books other than The Dark Heroine Danny, so I’m definitely curious about this one. I haven’t had too much success (aside from Of Poseidon) with water-creature books (I’m assuming at least she’s a mermaid/selkie/siren?), but if it came highly recommended to you and you loved it too, then I’m definitely going to give it a try!

  2. This sounds wonderful! I could totally use a book to take me away to the Bahamas, and something with a cast of great characters sounds like it could do the trick! I love when the authors let the best friends stick around for the plot, and when the parents act like parents – it’s so strange when they’re written out for convenience!

  3. Does a Caribbean vacation come with the book??? I’m thinking probably not for that low price! I am going to Florida in a couple of weeks, but I don’t get to go to the beach when I’m there. But I could use a warm read anyway and you know, I just never get tired of mermaid stories! Maybe someone should check my DNA!!

So was this really a New Adult book or was it YA. You describe the romance as sweet and no hot or sexy so not sure.
