Be still my beating heart! When my 6 year old daughter received this book for Christmas this year, we both did a little happy dance! We’ve been fans of Fancy Nancy’s exploits in picture books since we first met her in her self-titled debut! Fabulous pacing, vocabulary building fun and beyond gorgeous artwork hooked us from the start! We’ve grown with her over the years, through early reader books and now that Jane O’Connor has branched into early middle grade chapter books, we couldn’t be more excited.
That Nancy and Bree would get caught up in Valentine’s day is hardly a shock, but it was lovely to see how their plans for their favorite teen-agers evolve over the course of the book. I love how sweet and smart and kind-hearted these girls are, and what good friends they are to each other. Seamlessly, Ms. O’Conner weaves in teachable moments and the kind of characters I can be proud for my daughter to emulate. Add in a sub-plot about being inclusive and this momma was just as hooked as my super-girly, Fancy baby!
Perfectly played romance and high quality values merge effortlessly with just a plain fun story. Read this with your daughter, your niece or any little girl who just loves a red, heart-spanlged boa!

I love Fancy Nancy! I didn’t know she’d grown up though!!! I am so excited. Yes, I just read them to myself. I have no girls. Not even any neighbor girls the right age, but I worked in the elementary school library for so long and helped kids pick out books and worked book fairs, and I just loved Fancy Nancy! Thank God I wasn’t blogging then. I don’t think I could have supported my picture book habit and my MG/YA habit. But I still add to my picture book collection every time I hear of any good ones. I can’t stop reading them. Thank God I can order this one online!!! I’m picturing me and my best friend when we were young and scheming, the world was not ready for us!

Pushy, I have a six-year-old daughter as well! My daughter got Nancy Clancy Super Sleuth for Christmas this year, and she and I both LOVED it! Her birthday is in June, and Nancy Clancy Secret Admirer is going to be one of her presents. Great review!

My daughter adore the Nancy Clancy books. Every trip to the library she comes home with at least one, even if she has already read it. I am going to have to check in the middle grade ones too. Thanks for sharing this one.

I can’t remember if we read any Fancy Nancy books. It seems like maybe we got one from the library but I have zero memory of it. Looks like we should get one soon before my daughter is too old to appreciate them!

Omg you know what’s weird? I had never heard of this kids series before last month and I swear I hear about it at least once a week if not more since O_O Sounds like a really cute series though my friend loves them–she has a daughter. I can’t wait until my son is older and we can start reading together 🙂
