From Ashes
When Cassidy Jameson’s best friend Tyler took her to Texas with him when he left for college, she was expecting his cousin, their new roommate, to be a Stetson-wearing cowboy since his family owned a ranch; not this incredibly gorgeous guy with a husky Southern drawl that seemed to make the world stop whenever she looked at him. Because of her past, she’s only ever trusted two men in her life, Tyler and her dad whom passed away when she was six. But there’s something about Gage that draws her to him in a way she can’t explain, only problem? He’s always telling Tyler that he doesn’t want Cassidy living there and sees her as nothing more than his little sister.
Gage Carson was excited his cousin Tyler was coming to live with, and go to college with him. When he’d called to ask if he could bring his friend Cassi with him, Gage didn’t care. Gage had heard about this mysterious friend since they were kids and felt like he already knew her. Nothing would prepare him for watching her jump out of Ty’s Jeep though. Not only was Cassi the most beautiful girl he’d ever seen, but there was something about her that within seconds of meeting her, made Gage want to protect her, and make her his. Too bad Tyler made it a point to remind Gage on a daily basis that he was dating her and she was completely off limits.
For a year and a half, Gage and Cassidy dance around their feelings for each other as Tyler continues to keep them apart; until one day Tyler unknowingly pushes her right into Gage’s arms. With Tyler unable to keep lying to them, they finally start a relationship both have been craving since their first meeting. But when an accident and disaster sends her back to Tyler and California, will Cassidy be able to come face to face with the demons from her past to live a life she and Gage deserve; or will the fact that she once again ran to Tyler be the final push that ends Cassidy and Gage for good?
Recommended for ages 17+ due to sexual situations and language.
I heard from Molly McAdams because she published the highly acclamed book “Taking Chances”. I didn’t read it because I knew I would be uoset about the infamous twist in her story. So, when I saw “from Ashes” I was excited!
Broken Girl – going to College to forget her Life
Well, I kind of like broken characters. I feel with them and hope life will get better for them. Cassidy definitely had a very rough and horrible life and her only savior is her best friend Tyler who has been her rock forever. Both are leaving home when Tyler is going to attend College, which is not an option for Cassidy. Still, she can’t be without her best friend and rock. Life changes drastically when she meets Tyler’s Cousin Cage….
Heartbreaking Moments!
The story is full of heartbreaking moments. There are times when I cried with Cassidy and when I gasps out of shock. Clearly, the story is full of drama! The friendship between Tyler and Cassidy at first seems utterly beautiful and made my heart melt. the love between Cage and Cassidy came a quite fast and felt a little like instant love. But, of course it’s not that easy! Tons of things happen that keeps them apart and it takes forever for them to come together..
Best Friend? Really?
I guess my main problem with the story was Tyler. Just as I said above I loved Tyler so much – but then… he he changes so drastically that I couldn’t truly believe it. He incredible cruel and I couldn’t wrap my mind around his behavior. How can a best friend do things like this? Even more, he did something which should have been inacceptable, yet Cassidy in the end forgives him. I was shocked! Even more, a lot of the drama surrounding Cage and Cassidy’s relationship would have been no problem if they would have just talked! Those kind of things always drive me nuts. Of course, sometimes not talking is the only option yet here it was definitely an overkill and not believable anymore. From there on the story went downhill for me and I was more confused, frustrated and made than anything else. Even the lovely tender moments couldn’t make up for this.

Bottom Line
From Ashes by Molly McAdams deals with a lot of heartbreak, devastating situations and the path of a young woman who has been beaten by life to find happiness. However, the tender beautiful moments couldn’t make up for the fact that some drama was totally overdone and not believable and that Tyler turned out to be a horrible person even though I loved him at first.
I strongly believe that fans of “taking Chances” will absolutely love this book as I believe it has similar treats than Molly McAdam’s first book. People that were frustrated with “Taking Chances” will very likely be as frustrated with “From Ashes”

DAMMIT DANNY!!!!!! I’m all nervous for this book now! I have to read this one and TAKING CHANCES and I think both are going to be challenging reads for me. I’m glad you prepared me for TC though, otherwise I’m not sure what would have happened. We’ll have to see:) I’m bummed about Tyler, it’s always frustrating for me when characters do things that seem like abrupt departures from the person they were just pages before, but as with TC, maybe now that I know that going in, I’ll be able to handle it better:)

I really enjoyed Taking Chances, but this one was just an okay read for me — it was too similar to TC in a lot of ways (apart from that infamous twist) and I thought too many new characters/new storylines were tacked on at the end. It had potential at the start though, and I think McAdams is good at writing hot guys!

Oh, no! I hate when a character I really like changes so completely. This story sounds like it has premise…until the MC turns into a jerkwad. *sigh*

I had very similar feelings about this book. I totally agree that things could have been solved if the characters had just talked more!

Thanks so much for this review Danny! I haven’t read this one, but after Taking Chances (and assuming the two books are similar in nature) I think I have to accept that Molly McAdams and I don’t click.

I had a feeling this would be a book I didn’t like based on the cover. I hate cheating books, so I decided to avoid this one. Sounds like that was a good decision.
