The Prey
For Gene and the remaining humans—or hepers—death is just a heartbeat away. On the run and hunted by society, they must find a way to survive in The Vast… and avoid the hungry predators tracking them in the dark. But they’re not the only things following Gene. He’s haunted by the girl he left behind and his burgeoning feelings for Sissy, the human girl at his side.
When they discover a refuge of exiled humans living high in the mountains, Gene and his friends think they’re finally safe. Led by a group of intensely secretive elders, the civilisation begins to raise more questions than answers. A strict code of behaviour is the rule, harsh punishments are meted out, young men are nowhere to be found—and Gene begins to wonder if the world they’ve entered is just as evil as the one they left behind. As life at the refuge grows more perilous, he and Sissy only grow closer. In an increasingly violent world, all they have is each other… if they can only stay alive.
Last year, I was incredibly surprised by how much I loved the first book “The Hunt”. It was creepy, unique and awesome and I never expected to be so excited about this book. Needless to say, I was looking forward to see how much the sequel lived up to its processor.
On The Run
We were left in the first book with Gene escaping the creepy Zombie/Vampire’s together with some remaining humans. Now, they are on a search for the “promised” land where they could live free and without fear of being hunted all the time. What they find is a small civilization and at first it seems like everything is finally alright. If.. there wouldn’t be something nagging in Gene’s mind , something that seems off…
Action & Secrets & Twits & Turns
Just like with the first book, I loved the action packed plot. It was easy to get sucked into this story as fast as with the first book! Following Gene and the other to find a place where they could live was something I desperately wished for them to find. The escape was action paced and let me hold my breath and when I thought I could cool down when they reached this civilization place I was oh so wrong. After a few pages that went easy with us, we jumped right back into action and discovering all the secrets this places held made it impossible to stay away from this book. It was equally thrilling, gross and the perfect amount of creepy!
Also, there were some amazing twists and turns some of which I might have seen coming, but others totally caught me by surprise!
Flashed out deep character and wonderful relationships!
Apart from the thrilling and creepy plot, The Hunt as well as The Prey has incredibly characters that stick out and are wonderfully developed. In addition to these characters, I loved the relationship that have been formed and become incredibly important. And, I’m not just talking about romance but also friendship and family. Although, I was happy to see that there was so romance here too!

Bottom Line
The Prey by Andrew Fukuda was a thrilling and creepy ride that kept me glued to the pages and barely left me time to catch a breath. It was a well-rounded sequel to an equally awesome first book. If you like creepy, thrilling stories full of action with wonderful characters, then it’s time for you to pick up “The Hunt“, or read The Sequel “The Prey”.

I know how much you loved The Hunt and I haven’t read it and now the sequel is out? I am so behind! I know I want this series it just sounds so awesome. And I love the concept. I didn’t read your review only that you gave it another five doll rating.
