Wow–after four Christmas get together’s in three days (three of which required two hour drives), I’m just plain beat. But it’s time to look back at the past year in book land to see what sticks out. So here’s a list of the books I absolutely adored in 2012 in no particular order (just however the popped into my overstimulated and overtired now on a much needed vacation). If you click the cover you can hop on over to Amazon if you still need to experience these wonderful books first hand, but if you need convincing, just click the words my review to see if my sometimes witty, oftentimes rambling words convince you that these books are made of so much awesome that you’re missing out.

Jenny Plague Bringer - Jeffs font copy It was such a surprise when JL Bryan announced that he was continuing the Paranormals series trilogy with a book four, and Jenny Plague-Bringer did not disappoint. This was the strongest book in the series, in my opinion, and I loved every second of it. (my review)

All three of us Bookworms met Katie McGarry at BEA this year, and she’s such a lovely, smart, sweet woman. And boy, did her debut, Pushing the Limits, blow us away! The emotion, the angst, the romance. It’s really an awesome roller coaster ride, and all of us reviewed it together. (Our review)

No one knows what happened the night Echo Emerson went from popular girl with jock boyfriend to gossiped-about outsider with “freaky” scars on her arms. Even Echo can’t remember the whole truth of that horrible night. All she knows is that she wants everything to go back to normal. But when Noah Hutchins, the smoking-hot, girl-using loner in the black leather jacket, explodes into her life with his tough attitude and surprising understanding, Echo’s world shifts in ways she could never have imagined. They should have nothing in common. And with the secrets they both keep, being together is pretty much impossible.

Yet the crazy attraction between them refuses to go away. And Echo has to ask herself just how far they can push the limits and what she’ll risk for the one guy who might teach her how to love again.

The Charley Davidson Series by Darynda Jones — This excellent series featuring a snarky female Grim Reaper has shot to the top of my favorite Urban Fantasy series lists, and I devoured the four available books quickly. I can’t wait for the next book! These books are fun, thoughtful, action packed, and well-plotted/well-paced(Our review)

GoneGirl I’d been a fan of Gillian Flynn since her first novel, and I knew she was capable 0f producing dark, twisting turning books. And Gone Girl is her best one yet.

Marriage can be a real killer.

One of the most critically acclaimed suspense writers of our time, New York Times bestseller Gillian Flynn takes that statement to its darkest place in this unputdownable masterpiece about a marriage gone terribly, terribly wrong. The Chicago Tribune proclaimed that her work “draws you in and keeps you reading with the force of a pure but nasty addiction.” Gone Girl’s toxic mix of sharp-edged wit and deliciously chilling prose creates a nerve-fraying thriller that confounds you at every turn.

On a warm summer morning in North Carthage, Missouri, it is Nick and Amy Dunne’s fifth wedding anniversary. Presents are being wrapped and reservations are being made when Nick’s clever and beautiful wife disappears from their rented McMansion on the Mississippi River. Husband-of-the-Year Nick isn’t doing himself any favors with cringe-worthy daydreams about the slope and shape of his wife’s head, but passages from Amy’s diary reveal the alpha-girl perfectionist could have put anyone dangerously on edge. Under mounting pressure from the police and the media—as well as Amy’s fiercely doting parents—the town golden boy parades an endless series of lies, deceits, and inappropriate behavior. Nick is oddly evasive, and he’s definitely bitter—but is he really a killer?

As the cops close in, every couple in town is soon wondering how well they know the one that they love. With his twin sister, Margo, at his side, Nick stands by his innocence. Trouble is, if Nick didn’t do it, where is that beautiful wife? And what was in that silvery gift box hidden in the back of her bedroom closet?

With her razor-sharp writing and trademark psychological insight, Gillian Flynn delivers a fast-paced, devilishly dark, and ingeniously plotted thriller that confirms her status as one of the hottest writers around.

So that was my year in books. I had a great trip to BEA in New York with Pushy, Danny, and Kristen, and I met some great book bloggers. I look forward to 2013 and many more words by fantastic authors and interacting with great readers like yourself.

Why don’t you share your favorite book of 2012 with me? I’d love to hear about it so I might add it to my list!

It’s been a wonderful 2012, and here’s to a fantastic 2013!
