Weekly meme from The Story Siren. The idea is to post the books you got this week, whether you bought them, got them as a gift, from the library, or received them to review.

Hi, everyone! I have two books for you guys this week (All links for books and authors are to Goodreads, descriptions are from Amazon, click the book covers to go to the Amazon.com page for the book)

I preordered Laini Taylor’s sequel to Daughter of Smoke and Bone, Days of Blood and Starlight.

Once upon a time, an angel and a devil fell in love and dared to imagine a world free of bloodshed and war.

This is not that world.

Art student and monster’s apprentice Karou finally has the answers she has always sought. She knows who she is—and what she is. But with this knowledge comes another truth she would give anything to undo: She loved the enemy and he betrayed her, and a world suffered for it.

In this stunning sequel to the highly acclaimed Daughter of Smoke & Bone, Karou must decide how far she’ll go to avenge her people. Filled with heartbreak and beauty, secrets and impossible choices, Days of Blood & Starlight finds Karou and Akiva on opposing sides as an age-old war stirs back to life.

While Karou and her allies build a monstrous army in a land of dust and starlight, Akiva wages a different sort of battle: a battle for redemption. For hope.

But can any hope be salvaged from the ashes of their broken dream?

I listened to the audiobook of Daughter of Smoke and Bone, and I think that’s  a big part of what made me fall in love with this series. The narrator was so theatrical and lively, she really brought every single character to life for me. I just know I’ll hear her voice in my head when I read this next book. But this time around, I bought the hardcover, so I’m hoping that I can be just as engaged and in love with the characters as I was when I listened to the first book. I really cannot wait to see how everything shakes out with Karou and the rest of the characters.

I picked up a Kindle copy of Misty Provencher’s Cornerstone when it was free on Amazon.

Nalena Maxwell has been branded ‘The Waste’ at her new school, due to her mom’s obsessive paper hoarding. Nalena desperately wants something to change in her life, but when she receives a sign (and it’s the wrong dang one) inviting her into a mysterious, ancient community, too much changes. What she knew of her family, what she thought of her life and what she believed about her future, is no longer applicable. Seventeen years worth of family skeletons come crashing into Nalena’s life and it is the boy…the one that smiles at her like he wants to hear everything she’ll ever say…that already knows her powerful secrets. But it is only Nalena that can choose between protecting the life that is already crumbling beneath her feet and the one that might sacrifice everything she could ever have.

Danny pointed this one out when it was free for a few days on Amazon, and she’s never steered me wrong before. The description seems pretty interesting, and the reviews are good, so what have a got to lose?

What’s in your mailbox this week? Pick any free books up lately that have blown you away or have you read Days of Blood and Starlight already? Am I going to love it?
