The Lost Prince by Julie Kagawa  on goodreads:

Don’t look at Them. Never let Them know you can see Them.

That is Ethan Chase’s unbreakable rule. Until the fey he avoids at all costs—including his reputation—begin to disappear, and Ethan is attacked. Now he must change the rules to protect his family. To save a girl he never thought he’d dare to fall for.

Ethan thought he had protected himself from his older sister’s world—the land of Faery. His previous time in the Iron Realm left him with nothing but fear and disgust for the world Meghan Chase has made her home, a land of myth and talking cats, of magic and seductive enemies. But when destiny comes for Ethan, there is no escape from a danger long, long forgotten.

Julie Kagawa is one of those auto-buy authors for me. I love her insanely and all her books are just simply phenomenal. So, when she announced that she was going to write another series set in the Iron Fey world I was ecstatic! And…as usual… she did not disappoint! Not at all!

Let’s get back to the NeverNever!

The setting was phenomenal. But this was expected since I loved already the setting in The Iron Fey saga so much. It’s magical, full of mystery and full of wonderment. So, this didn’t change much! But there is Ethan! Kidnapped by the former Iron King and driving force behind Maghan’s adventures in the Iron Fey series. I absolutely loved the new plot idea and the direction this series will go! It’s a smart and exciting new direction and again shows off Julie’s amazing storytelling skills!

Ethan!! Kick-Ass. Angry, Bitter but Oh so lovable!

I was actually eager to see how Julie Kagawa manages to make us forget about Ethan the kid and introduce us to Ethan the 17-year-old boy. ..And OMG  – she did manage to make us forget that we first meet Ethan as a kid!

Admittedly, the cover was also very helpful, showing of this cute shirtless boy on the cover was just perfect to forget kid-Ethan!

But, jumping right into the story. Ethan was brooding,  rude and very angry. You could initially feel Ethans anger. All his rage about his sister leaving and the world he now lives in with having the “sight”.Being able to see the Fey doesn’t make his life easy, now it makes it even harder. He shuts himself off from all relationships not wanting to get everyone in danger!

I love Ethan!!!! I understand his anger and I felt his loneliness and bitterness. My heart broke for him and I just wanted to hug him and tell him all will be good again…

Oh and Ethan can serious kick ass!!! WOOOT!! Seriously, I promise even though he might frustrate you once in a while, you will love this boy!

Colorful, amazing and epic set of characters!

Julie is a master in creating characters, and we will meet some old (Grim, Puck, Meghan and Ash) friends, but also some new characters! Kenzie, is the girl who perfectly fits to Ethan! She’s smart and she doesn’t let herself be blended by Ethans harsh attitude. She wants to look behind the wall Ethan build around himself. She wants to find the real Ethan underneath all this rudeness!

Then, there is my favorite character besides Ethan: Keirran! I won’t tell you more than that I am utterly in love with this boy and I would even wish Julie would get him his own story!!!

Old Characters, new Perspective!

What I found most fascinating is that Julie managed to make me cheer for the new characters and take over the perspective and feelings of them. I loved Meghan and I sure as hell loved Ash, yet I totally understood Ethan’s anger. I saw Meghan and Ash’s from Ethan’s POV and started cheering for him. This you only manage if you are a master in storytelling and Julie Kagawa most certainly is!

Bewitched Rating

Bottom Line

The Lost Prince was thrilling, compelling and a pure wonderment! Getting us back into a beloved world with new exciting characters! Ethan will rock your socks, as he’s all grown up and broken – ready to be fixed! I am sure this journey will be just as epic as Meghan’s and I cannot wait to read more!

  1. I need to read Iron Knight so I can finish out this story and get to The Lost Prince. I love the cover and I am eager to meet 17year old Etan. I love spin offs, its so much better than making a series last forever. Great review.!

  2. Yay! I’m so glad you loved this one too (though not surprised since our tastes are nearly identical:) I was a huge fan of Keirran as well, and I wouldn’t even mind a prequel maybe detailing the start of his interest in a certain someone. I really hope we get to delve deeper into Ethan’s anger moving forward, I can’t wait to see him and Meghan has out what time and distance has forced them to bury:)

Squeals for Keirran! Can he be any cuter???? I wish there would be more story about him, and I wouldn’t mind hearing his story!!!

Ethan was so angry and it made me so sad! I hope he finds peace at some point…

  7. LOVE this series! LOVED this book! Ethan was excellent–even his sullen teenage behavior was understandable and not annoying (yay). Strange to see Meagan in such a different light but cool, too!

I know right??? To see Meghan being all Queen and somehow grown up and a little cold… But, we saw her from Ethans eyes so it made sense! Actually, I was just as angry as Ethan!

  10. I didn’t like Ethan. That kind of broke the story for me. And I felt like I didn’t know Kierran enough to understand him. I think the story would have been better told from Kenzie’s point of view looking back. or split POV’s. I just felt like Ethan was so angry all the time. It just colored everything for me. He whined. I liked the story but didn’t love it.

I have read the series and this book was so good! I got a problem though. I was sitting on the couch getting to the good part. I turned the page and found out that someone who checked out the book before me ripped a page out. That is an evil thing to do! That’s the only book I could find and I need help on trying to find that page. Can you go on a website and look the page up? I cant move on and finish it if I didn’t read it all the way. I’m desperate.

  12. I think that everything posted was very logical.
However, think about this, what if you composed
a catchier title? I ain’t saying your content is not
good., however what if you added a post title that makes people want more?
I mean Bewitched BookwormsThe Lost Prince by Julie Kagawa
is a little vanilla. You might peek at Yahoo’s front page and see how they create post headlines to get people to click.
You might add a video or a picture or two to get readers excited about what
you’ve written. In my opinion, it would make your blog a little livelier.
