Random House was so nice to provide the audiobook for Niall Leonard’s young adult debut, Crusher

I listened to a little of this audiobook as I loaded it onto my iPod, and I loved the narrator’s British accent. Hopefully this YA thriller is as exciting as it sounds. The author is Mr. EL James, of Fifty Shades of Grey fame, so I’m a bit curious to see how his writing compares to his wife’s. He has a background in writing for television, so I’m going to so how it goes.
The first New Adult book I bought was Lengths by Steph Campbell and Liz Reinhardt. 
Nineteen-year-old Whit Conrad leaves her conservative Pennsylvania home for sunny California, looking for independence, a fresh start, and a place to stash her grief. She promptly finds a job at a tattoo parlor, a craptastic first apartment, and one friend—Ryan—who is a little less friend, a little more benefits.
Deo Beckett is a soulful surfer with a passion for tattoos and beautiful women. On the eve of his twenty-second birthday, he finds himself living with his grandfather, recently unemployed, and seriously adrift. He doesn’t know much about what he wants out of life, but he does know his current situation isn’t cutting it.
When Deo meets Whit, she’s all sexy makeup and fierce, smart-ass fun. It doesn’t take him long to see past her tough shell. And when he gets a good look at what’s under all the superficial stuff that usually gets his attention, it leaves Deo wondering if there might be more to life than living fast and free.
Too bad Whit has a past she doesn’t plan on sharing—no matter how hot Deo is. She might want him, but she knows better than to let her guard down.

I’ll admit that I’m hitting the New Adult bandwagon since I’m getting a bit burned out on YA, and I’m yearning for a bit angstier stories that have a bit of heat to them. And this one is only ninety-nine cents, so it’s not much of a gamble with so many decent reviews.
I also bought Easy by Tammara Webber. 
A girl who believes trust can be misplaced, promises are made to be broken, and loyalty is an illusion. A boy who believes truth is relative, lies can mask unbearable pain, and guilt is eternal. This is another New Adult book that I’ve heard nothing but good things about. And I was able to snag it when it was mistakenly put on sale for ninety-nine cents.

I have to admit, I’ve been in the same boat with YA burn out. I do that to myself, though, getting all super-obsessed and diving into the deep end of a genre. Then, after a while of gorging myself, I get…tired. That’s why I’ve been trying to mix it up on the genre front (though I’ve gotten stuck in the UF genre…). I like that the NA books have a bit more heat, too. Happy reading!

Since I’m burned out, I’ve started watching tv shows on Netflix that I haven’t had the time to watch when they first aired or I wanted to rewatch. I just went through all of the seasons of Supernatural again, and I just watched both seasons of Teen Wolf last week. Now I’m reading more contemporary books, and it seems to be helping with the burn out.

I LOVED Easy and Lentghs was pretty awesome, too. Hope you have fun with those 🙂 I bet you’ll fall in love with Lucas from Easy. He totally rocked my world. Heh. Yeah, hope you enjoy 🙂 Like that you have New Adult books here, imo they’re better than YA or.. I’m just growing out of YA.

Lengths sounds SO good! I must get me a copy! I’ve jumped aboard the New Adult bandwagon for the same reason as you. YA doesn’t seem to be doing it for me at the moment. My last few YA reads were just OK. I’ve read Easy and enjoyed it, but not as much as a lot of other people I know. Have you read Taking Chances by Molly McAdams? I swear I sound like a cheerleader for that book. It’s another New Adult. Really good! 🙂

Crusher sounds really good, especially if it’s in an english accent 😉 Will have to look this one up too! And I definitely understand the need to switch things up every now and then… I usually do that with middle grade, hee hee!
