The Dark Light by Sara Walsh – Blog Tour & Giveaway

Posted 22 August, 2012 by Danny in Blog, Blog Tour, Danny / 130 Comments

Today I’m super excited to host Sara Walsh and her debut The Dark Light on the Bookworms. The wonderful Mia – main character of The Dark Light took her time, drank a coffee with me and chatted a little about her journey!

and… I have a wonderful Giveaway for you at the end!

So, please welcome Mia – our fearless heroine who snatched this awesome boy with the big tattoo on his back ..

Hi Mia! Thank you so much for taking your time to visit me here and answer some of my questions!! Take a seat and make yourself comfortable, Tee or Coffee?

Mia: Coffee! Always coffee. Or a chocolate shake!

Ahhh a my Girl!! !I couldn’t live without coffee!! So Mia, you had quite a journey but now you are safely back home! What was the most frightening that happened to you and what was the best?

Mia :Most frightening was not knowing if Iโ€™d ever get Jay back, and realizing that we were both involved in something much bigger than Iโ€™d ever known existed. The best part was the people I met. I would have gone crazy without Delane. And then there was Solโ€ฆ

OoOo Sol!โ€ฆ Mia letโ€™s talk about Sol! What did you think when you first saw this incredibly gorgeous man?

Mia: I donโ€™t think any of us knew what to think when we first saw Sol. We were all laughing and joking about how hot he was, which was definitely true. Iโ€™d heard about him, but Iโ€™d never expected him to be soโ€ฆ ripped. There just werenโ€™t any guys at school that looked like Sol.

Sol has a very prominent and vivid tattoo on his back. What did you think this means when you first saw it?

Mia: The first thing I wanted to know when I saw Solโ€™s tattoo was where heโ€™d gotten it from. I mean, it was huge–bigger than any tattoo Iโ€™d ever seen. And the colors were so bright. It was totally different. A tattoo that big had to mean something, but I had no idea what it was. I knew I had to find out.

I remember when you found out about Solโ€™s secret. I was shocked but also mesmerized! What did you think when you found out. Can you share this with us without revealing his secret?

Mia: Sol had lots of secrets, but I think I know which one you mean. Iโ€™d gotten to the point where I could almost believe anything, but I wasnโ€™t sure if I could ever believe that. But then everything kind of clicked into place and his secret made sense. It felt right. I just wish heโ€™d have told me sooner. I mean, I couldnโ€™t speak when I found out! But then thatโ€™s Sol. He does everything for a reason.

I love the relationship you have with your brother, would you tell us what he means to you?

Mia: Jay means everything to me. Period. Heโ€™s the coolest kid ever. All I wanted was for him to stay that way and not have to deal with the crap that Iโ€™d had to deal with. If ever Iโ€™d start to feel down, Iโ€™d just think about Jay and everything would start to make sense.

Was it hard growing up without real family besides your brother? You had to grow up very fastโ€ฆ.

Mia: To be honest, I never really thought about it. My numbers didnโ€™t come up on the parent lottery, and I had just had to deal with that and move on. I had Grandma, until she died. Then I had Pete, even if he is completely useless. I can take care of myself, but Jayโ€™s only ten, so heโ€™s more important. As long as Jayโ€™s okay, then everythingโ€™s fine by me. Itโ€™s not his fault–or mine–that our Dad was a complete loser.

If you would have the chance to go back, never finding out who you are but also never meeting Sol, what would you choose?

Mia: Iโ€™d choose to know. And Iโ€™d choose to meet Sol. Every time.

*me sighs heavily…* ย

My Review (4*)

Genre: YA Paranromal
Publication: August 28th 2012 by Simon Pulse
Get your own: amazon | BookDepository
The Dark Light by Sara Walsh ย on goodreads:ย

Mia is torn between two guysโ€”and two worldsโ€”in this epic, romantic fantasy.Mysterious lights have flickered above Crownsville for as long as Mia can remember. And as far as sheโ€™s concerned, thatโ€™s about the only interesting thing to happen in her small town.

That is, until Sol arrives. Miaโ€™s not one to fall for just any guy, but she canโ€™t get Solโ€”or the brilliant tattoo on his backโ€”out of her mind.

Then Miaโ€™s brother goes missing, and Miaโ€™s convinced that Sol knows more than heโ€™s sharing. But getting closer to Sol means reevaluating everything Mia once believed to be true. Because Solโ€™s not who Mia thought he wasโ€”and neither is she.

Don’t worry you can read both interview and review safely! There are no spoilers that would reduce the fun reading the book ๐Ÿ™‚

  2. I am so dying to know about the tattoo. It’s impressive and breath taking! I think I wouldn’t be able to stay away from a guy with a tattoo like that either even though I’m not a girl that goes for the tattooed type. Still, there are always exceptions. And Sol sounds like an exception!

Have you reviewed this and I missed it? Or just giving us this tantalizing interview?
Great character interview! Thanks for the giveaway!!

  3. I’d choose to meet Sol every time too Mia! Smart girl:) I like to think if someone as hot as Sol with an epic tattoo showed up at my high school that I would have been cool, no drooling or excessive staring , instead I’d be the epitome of collected and normal. I don’t think that would be reality though. There would be drool for sure. And staring. And pining. And probably many an attempt at groping. Oops:)

  6. To Ms. Walsh – I bet your psychology degree helped you develop some pretty awesome characters – motives, inner demons, etc. And, I have always had a soft spot for St. Bernard dogs.

    Hey, nrlymrtl!

You know, I never thought of that! I’m a great believer in everything happening for a reason, so maybe my psych background did help with the book!

Also, anyone who likes St. Bernards get a huge thumbs up from me. They’re amazing dogs!

The cover of this book is incredibly gorgeous!! I can’t wait to read this book and start Mia’s story and I love when books show the strong bonds between siblings. Ms. Walsh’s book looks like it will be an incredible read, some thing different and new!

    Thanks for your comment, Christina!

I have to admit that I love showing strong bonds between siblings. I get that brothers and sisters fight, but I think siblings often offer each other huge levels of support when there really isn’t any other around. Mia and Jay are a great team, and a bit of a double act at times!

    Thanks for stopping by!

The Dark Light is incredibly intriguing, from the first glimpse of that gorgeous cover to the blurb that draws you in just enough to make you want more. I can’t wait to read this book. It is wonderful when an author creates a character like Mia who deals with the cards that she is dealt in life maturely and thinks about people other than herself. I feel like that is missing in YA a lot of times now, and it is nice to see. I can’t wait to read it and dig deeper into the relationship between Mia and Jay, and Mia and Sol. I just can’t wait, period. Thanks for the chance to win!

Thanks for your lovely comment, Jaime.

Mia was definitely a pleasure to work with as I was writing The Dark Light. She’s had a bit of a rough ride, but I love how she’s able to say, “You know what? This is me” and try to make the best of a bad situation.

    Good luck for the giveaway!
