Lengths by Steph Campbell & Liz Reinhardt, synopsis from goodreadsNineteen-year-old Whit Conrad leaves her conservative Pennsylvania home for sunny California, looking for independence, a fresh start, and a place to stash her grief. She promptly finds a job at a tattoo parlor, a craptastic first apartment, and one friend—Ryan—who is a little less friend, a little more benefits.

Deo Beckett is a soulful surfer with a passion for tattoos and beautiful women. On the eve of his twenty-second birthday, he finds himself living with his grandfather, recently unemployed, and seriously adrift. He doesn’t know much about what he wants out of life, but he does know his current situation isn’t cutting it.

When Deo meets Whit, she’s all sexy makeup and fierce, smart-ass fun. It doesn’t take him long to see past her tough shell. And when he gets a good look at what’s under all the superficial stuff that usually gets his attention, it leaves Deo wondering if there might be more to life than living fast and free.

Too bad Whit has a past she doesn’t plan on sharing—no matter how hot Deo is. She might want him, but she knows better than to let her guard down.

Deo falls for Whit, and falls hard. But everything about her, down to that mysterious tattoo and the way she thrashes in her sleep, tells him that the girl he loves is hiding something. And the more he pushes for answers, the more Whit pulls away.

Having your guard up is one thing, but are the lengths Whit goes to to protect her secret worth throwing away the second chance she has at happiness with Deo?

Feeding my latest addition of New Adult stories, Length is the perfect book for people who want to dig into this genre. As I just finished it yesterday I decided to throw in a MiniView today.

Sexy goofball Doe and broken Whit  in a Dual POV

The two main characters couldn’t be any cuter and more perfectly flashed out. Doe is the perfect surfer boy! 22 careless, funny, incredibly sexy and no real idea what to do with his life apart from surfing! He never took life seriously enough and never had the balls to do something about it. This changes when he falls for broken Whit who stirs something in his heart that makes him wish to change. Whit is running from life. Having just lost her brother and soaked in guild, she run from home to study in California. There, she wanted to be a different self and stumbles into a no meaning relationship that is just about sex. But, when Doe comes along and wants more than just sex, she runs…

The story is told from both POV and both work effortlessly! I loved both, but I think Doe’s POV was absolute perfection in his surfer attitude, and sexy goofball voice! There is no way not to fall for this boy!

Depth, Heartbreak, Laughter and Sexy Times..

… this story has it all. Both, Doe and Whit had to deal with a lot of issues and suddenly when they are together they are both challenged to finally deal with them instead of always running. Whit’s situation was heartbreaking and I felt for her deeply. Having lost a brother myself, I could relate to her with to escape. Length comes with everthing that I love about this new genere. It is deep, but there are also very cute and hot scenes that do not stop with kissing! My only complain is that the pacing sometimes feels a little off, when month or weeks are just skipped. I wished to read more about those weeks and I was so sad to just skip them!

Flashed out Secondary Character

I have to mention the secondary and supporting charcters, because even though the book is not long. This fantastic Author Duo managed to create an incredible set of secondary characters! Doe’s Hippie Mom was amazing and I love her deeply! Doe’s Granddad (or old-timer, as Doe calls him) was the most funny old man I ever encountered! Then there is Whit’s boss in the tattoo studio and Doe’s best friend, who both just add to the perfection of this story!

Bewitched Rating

Bottom Line

Length was an amazing deep read, with an incredible cast of fantastic characters! Doe is the perfect Surfer Boy, who is sexy, funny, a total goofball but with the heart in the right place! The set of phenomenal secondary characters rounds this story up to get the perfect summer reading escape!

  1. Girl, you are absolutely ROCKING the NA! I love it! I’m reading Easy right now but I’m totally adding this one to my TBR list. Great find and I love your review! Also.. Sunny California. I’m a California girl, so how can I turn this one down?

  2. This sounds absolutely brilliant. Like you, I’m a huge fan of New Adult, so I’m intrigued by this book. Since you’ve really praised it, I’ll be checking it out. The characters seem very much realistic! Awesome review, Danny! 🙂

  3. I just read your post on New Adult (I don’t know how I missed if before *facepalm*) and I loved it! I love this growing genre, because it brings depth, intensity and sexiness to the YA. (I think I should do a post on this genre too, I read a lot of NA books lately and I need to recommend them to everyone:P).
As for Lengths… Wow, this book was awesome! <3 The pacing was a bit off (the beginning was a bit rushed IMO and then those pauses in the middle of the story…), but overall, I really liked Deo and Whit's story! It was beautiful and inspiring. And the tattoo part there at the end? With the anchor? OMG! *faints*

    Great review!
