My Thoughts on chapters 6 through 10!

This book has continued to be hilarious while the mystery about the murdered lawyers deepens. But now Charley’s unknown man who visits in her dreams can make appearances when she’s awake too, and the things he does to her are not things that should be done in public. As she enlists the help of her assistant Cookie and a ghostly allie by the name of Rocket, who records the names of everyone who dies on the walls of a nearby abandoned asylum, to find her mystery man. Add in a stakeout with her Uncle Bob and irritating hottie PI Garrett that goes injuriously wrong for Charley, and this set of chapters progresses nicely.

Quite honestly, I’ve read two books since I read these chapters last week so the details are a little muddy, but I remember enjoying this book so much that I didn’t want to put it down! (But deadlines are deadlines, so back into the pile it went. *pout*)

Questions:

1. Shiny objects and old family stories are told in this chapter, including an old nickname for our dear Charley. What was the nickname her uncle Bob gave her when she was little? Do you have an old nickname from when you were a kid? You can share it, and if it’s really embarrassing we won’t mind. *wink*

I remember the name Dutch being used throughout to refer to Charley. And what’s even more confusing to her is that her mystery visitor/molestor refers to her as Dutch too. But then I remember something about Calamity in there. Like I said in week 1’s post, Heather isn’t a name that really lends itself to nicknames. Nothing to share here unfortunately.

2. In this chapter we met someone. A really special guy named Rocket. Now, my memory is not what it used to be, and I just can’t remember what makes him so special. Can you tell me what makes this particular ghost unique among all the others? And how about you? What can you do that makes you special? Anything? Jump on one foot for a really long time counts. *giggle*

Oh, Rocket–what a creepy, yet useful ghost. He records the names of every single person who passes away on the walls of the abandoned asylum that he haunts. Makes it a bit easier for Charley when she needs to find out if someone who is missing is really dead or not (or maybe her ghostly gentleman caller/molester is alive or dead).

I have an uncanny ability to remember every little thing that you did that irritated me. Oh, wait–that probably just makes me an average woman. I’m pretty musical, although I haven’t performed in public in years. I sing, play piano, flute, shorter stints of tenor saxophone in jazz band and xylophone during high school. While I was successful in all of that, I think I enjoyed singing the most, especially having the lead in my schools production of Bye Bye Birdie my senior year and being in the All State Choir. It was tons of fun and so many years ago. My son and the cats get to hear my singing now, and all of them tell me to shut up, LOL.

3. Charley is really *cough* not your ordinary girl. She does something that, well, there’s no way around it. She named parts of her body and the names are… oh crap, I forgot. Just my luck. *sigh* But I’m sure you guys can say what part of her body she named and what the names were. And, since we are on the matter, have you ever named a part of your body? If so, what was it and what was the name? Come on, don’t be shy. *wink+crooked smile*

When she named her boobs “Danger” and “Will Robinson” I about died laughing, and mind you, I was reading this at six am on the train on my way in to work. So, yeah, it was one of those days where I got the weird looks again. Luckily I’ve mastered the death glare so people know to look away pretty quickly. Man, I’m pretty boring. I don’t have a nickname and I’ve never named a part of my body. (Although, I do remember now that some girls who couldn’t carry a tune if they had a bucket did call me “The Queen of Chorus” behind my back because they were jealous. Seriously, it’s not my fault you were tone deaf. Blame your crappy genetics!)

4. We all have our little secrets. Things we don’t tell anyone, not even our bff. Char (we became close 😛 ) is no different, but in this chapter she shared her little (big) secret (S) with her bff. What did you think about her reaction? What would be yours?

Cookie’s reaction was very tame, very calm. But I actually expected her reaction to be like this since she’s worked with Charley for so long that she’s used to the weirdness, and this extra layer of insanity is nothing. If I was in Cookie’s place, my reaction would have been the same.

5. In this chapter, Char continues her heart-to-heart with her BFF and comes up with some theories about our fave badboy/possibly ghost. What do you think of it? Can it be? What do you think about him? Hot? Double chocolate hot? Super duper caramel chocolate cake with a cherry on top hot?

At this point in time, I’m a bit creeped out by this guy. He comes to Charley while she’s sleeping and basically just gets it on with her, and then he starts coming to her during the day time too, just groping the crap out of her. It’s like some supernatural pervy molester right now, but there’s got to be some kind of redeeming quality to this, right? Poor Charley’s not just going to just keep getting violated, no matter how much she enjoys it.

So check out Jen the Bibliophile who is this weeks Tour Host! and… it’s not too late to join!

Have a wonderful Sunday,

Heather

  1. Someone who hides in your dreams just to get it on with you is indeed very pervy, especially when he starts doing it out of the dream, too! Of course, there are benefits to dream sex, I guess…

I really need to reread this book!

Yeah, it is a little weird so far, Mary. But I haven’t read any further than the assigned chapters so I have no idea what’s coming next…

  2. So glad you are still loving this one! Charley’s snarky commentary is always sure to gather some giggles. I would like to see the looks on people’s faces when you burst out laughing on the train! I didn’t realize that it was a throw back to Lost in Space….with the boob names! Well your son ans cats just don’t appreciate talent! Reyes is hot and trouble all in one!
