Heather here again, and I preordered a Kindle Fire from Amazon and I’ve been enjoying reading books on that compared to my Kindle3. (All book descriptions and links are to Goodreads)
I’ve been an Amazon Prime member for several years and a new perk they have is the ability to borrow one book per month. I have The Hunger Games trilogy as hardcovers, but I saw that I could borrow these from Amazon. After Pushy and I saw the trailer for The Hunger Games movie before the midnight premiere of Breaking Dawn Part I, she talked up the books enough that I figured I should probably get around to reading them. So I downloaded book 1 to my Kindle Fire and burned through that puppy in a few days.
The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins
In the ruins of a place once known as North America lies the nation of Panem, a shining Capitol surrounded by twelve outlying districts. The Capitol is harsh and cruel and keeps the districts in line by forcing them all to send one boy and one girl between the ages of twelve and eighteen to participate in the annual Hunger Games, a fight to the death on live TV.
Sixteen-year-old Katniss Everdeen, who lives alone with her mother and younger sister, regards it as a death sentence when she steps forward to take her sister’s place in the Games. But Katniss has been close to dead before—and survival, for her, is second nature. Without really meaning to, she becomes a contender. But if she is to win, she will have to start making choices that will weigh survival against humanity and life against love.
I finished up this one and was immediately able to download the second one as part of the Kindle Lending program because it was now December.

Since I blazed through this one in two days and you can only borrow one book from the Kindle lendng library per month, I’m currently reading the final book, Mockingjay, a my hardcover. Look for my reviews of all three books in the “Heather Finally Reads…” feature in the next few weeks.
On Black Friday, Amazon was running some really great deals on digital books. I did pick up a copy of Go the F**k to Sleep by Adam Mansbach with Illustrations by Ricardo Cortes for the lovely price of $1.99.

The other book I downloaded was Pride, Prejudice, and Zombies by Seth Grahame-Smith, Jane Austen. This was super cheap too and I couldn’t resist.

I preordered the next installment in the Chicagoland Vampires series by Chloe Neill entitled Drink Deep.
Clouds are brewing over Cadogan House, and recently turned vampire Merit can’t tell if this is the darkness before the dawn or the calm before the storm. With the city itself in turmoil over paranormals and the state threatening to pass a paranormal registration act, times haven’t been this precarious for vampires since they came out of the closet. If only they could lay low for a bit, and let the mortals calm down.
That’s when the waters of Lake Michigan suddenly turn pitch black-and things really start getting ugly.
Chicago’s mayor insists it’s nothing to worry about, but Merit knows only the darkest magic could have woven a spell powerful enough to change the very fabric of nature. She’ll have to turn to friends old and new to find out who’s behind this, and stop them before it’s too late for vampires and humans alike.
I’m still a little irritated with this series and what the author did with the male main character, but not enough to stop reading. I haven’t been that eager to jump right in, especially since the next book isn’t slated for release until August 2012. I’m just a little bit scared to be left hanging for that long.

I love the irreverant Go the F*** to Sleep. Can't tell you how many nights I still would need that book!
So, the Kindle Fire, it's good. I just don't know if I can give up my books. And I'm afraid of the migraines.
Not in the budget yet anyway. But it's tempting.

I loved the Hunger Games trilogy! I can't wait to read your reviews! I just got my husband a Kindle Fire and he loves it! I read Pride and Prejudice and Zombies a while back and it is very funny, I actually enjoyed all 3 books that are in this series. As for Go The F*** to sleep, I read it at a friends house and had to snort laugh several times…it is very naughty and you are so right "don't read this to your children" LOL!

I finished the first two books in the Hunger Games series and I loved them. I started the third today and I've had to force myself to stop reading so I could do other things. I'm glad you like the Kindle 4, I love the Kindle Fire and I don't regret buying it one bit.

The Hunger Games has been good, I kind of wonder why we waited so long to read it when so many people have been talking it up. I've had the hard cover box set since the final book came out last year, lol. I just never got around to reading any of them.

LOL, I thought I was the last person to not have read the Hunger Games books. I guess I was wrong, it's you! They are really good, it's refreshing to read some YA where the author isn't afraid to actually kill some people off over the course of the book.

Heather, don't wait to read the Hunger Games series. I waited so long and I honestly don't know why I waited so long, they are awesome. My son is so easy with bed time that I don't really need Go the F**k to Sleep, but it was hilarious!
The Kindle Fire is so great, especially for when authors send us ecopies of books. And I do read a lot of fanfiction on it. I read the first two Hunger Games books on it while traveling and on the train going back and forth to work and it was so nice to read in the dark. I get migaines really easy since my eyes are extremely photosensitive, but I haven't had any problems. But I still buy regular books for anything that I preorder because I refuse to pay the same price for a new release and not be able to loan it out to my friends. It's ridiculous.

Carmel, I was bad and I skipped to the end of Drink Deep when I ripped open that package from Amazon just to see if Ethan came back. So I know what happens with the best friend witch just from skimming a little bit. And that was enough to make me put the book down and move on to other things. I'll work my way up to it after I'm done with Mockingjay, maybe. Start the Hunger Games series, it will cleanse your pallet and maybe relieve some of your hate towards the vampire series, LOL.

How did you stop reading after the Hunger Games with that kind of cliffhanger? I had to immediately download the next one, Shae. There was no way to stop me from reading the next one. I'm trying to be good with Mockingjay and milk it out, but it's not working so well.

The Kindle Fire makes surfing the internet on my android smartphone suck in comparison since it's smaller, but it makes reading in the dark on car trips possible and for such a cheap price I couldn't pass it up.

These books are superb. And I'm glad that I'm reading them so close to when the first movie is coming out. I think dear, sweet Pushy from our little blog here and I will have a new book turned movie franchise that we will have to go watch in theaters.

I don't see how anyone could not love the Kindle Fire. It does eveything that want it to do. I didn't buy it looking for an iPad. I'd let my son look at Go the F**k to Sleep, but he's two so he can't read yet, LOL.
