synopsis from goodreads:

Sara Shepard, the author of the Pretty Little Liars novels, has followed up those top-selling fictions with an even more artfully knotted series. At its center is a murdered narrator whose long-lost identical twin sister Emma is serving as a stand-in detective to find the killer. In the second episode of their hunt, the pair discovers new clues, but they know that as they search for the killer, he or she is watching their every move, waiting for the right moment to end it all. Editor’s recommendation.

Many of you might know her previous series : Pretty Little Liars, which is also a ABC television show with the same name. I started by watching Pretty Little Liars and I got hooked! It’s awesome! When I then heard that she starts a new series “The Lying Game” and this will also be a ABC TV show I knew I had to read it!

YA mystery and thriller at it’s best!

The story started with twin girls Emma and Sutton that were adopted and didn’t know they had a twin sister for 16 years! Then things happened that forced Emma to take Suttons place and to find Suttons murder while pretending to be Sutton! Uh! The first book “The Lying Game” was a perfect page turner, very compelling and captivating and I hoped that “Never Have I Ever” lived up to the hype generated in the first book!

Well, it did! This book was as mysterious and as compelling as the first!

Emma = Sutton
Sutton = dead
Emma = ?

Emma is a total different character than Sutton was when she was still alive. Sutton grew up in a loving, caring and wealthy environment and… truth to be told she was downright a bitch! Emma however, grew up poor with now tight family background and is a very sweet girl that now finds herself in a loving family. She always dreamt about living in a wonderful family, but of course not like this… Having to pretend to be someone else is definitely how she envisioned this….

Emma also is alone – she can trust no one and everyone sees Sutton in her and not the real girl behind. The only person that knows her secret is Ethan. A very sweet boy the real Sutton would have never talked to in the first place, but oh well Emma is not Sutton and slowly but surely she falls for him..

Mystery, twists, turns, secrets!

The story is full of mystery and secrets Emma has to discover. She still has no idea who to trust from Sutton’s friends. One of them might be Sutton’s murder! And if Emma wants to live and find Sutton’s murder she has to dig – dig deep! This is a very dangerous game!

Unique Story Telling

What is interesting in terms of story telling is that the story of course is told from Sutton’s POV, who is dead but her spirit lingers and has to follow Emma. Dead!Sutton has no memory of her previous life and of course no idea who killed her! She sees and feels everything Emma does, but yet once in a while Dead!Sutton gets a glimpse here and there about things that happened before her dead. This adds a very compelling twist to the story and I love this way of telling the story!

Bottom Line
Great sequel to The Lying Game, where Emma’s relation with Ethan grows deeper and where they both discover secrets but of course also find more secrets! When you love Sara Shepards work from “Pretty Little Liars” and when you love the TV shows then this series is most definitely something for you!

UNABRIDGED
Narrated by Cassandra Morris
Length: 7 hrs 30 mins
I got the audiobook from HarperAudio and I truly love the audio version! I never listened to something narrated by Cassandra Morris but she did an awesome job! I never got bored listening to her voice and I liked her different voices and interpretations of the different characters! I even liked her male voices which is often something I complain about audiobooks, yet here I didn’t mind at all!
The audiobook was fast paced and just absolutely great!

    Thanks for sharing today and the lovely giveaway opportunity. I have watched the show, but only recently found out it was based on a series of books and I would like to give them a try ! I know my son will roll his eyes at me, much like he did at my enjoyment of the Twilight series , but that's okay I get to have the fun 🙂
