More on goodreads:

In Maggie Stiefvaterโ€™s SHIVER, Grace and Sam found each other. In LINGER, they fought to be together. Now, in FOREVER, the stakes are even higher than before. Wolves are being hunted. Lives are being threatened. And love is harder and harder to hold on to as death comes closing in.

*FOREVER SPOILER FREE POST, BUT Iโ€™M ASSUMING YOU HAVE READ SHIVER AND LINGER*

To say I was looking forward to this book was something of a complete understatement. I signed up for Linger when it was first released on our libraryโ€™s hold list and was certainly going to be one of the first for Forever as well. However, I got to cancel my hold because the most awesome Pushy Fox scored me a SIGNED! AAHHHHH! copy over at BEA in May. I stared at Forever longingly on my nightstandโ€ฆbut was afraid to read it.

No one wants good things to end, right? Even though Linger left us with one heck of a ginormous cliffie โ€“ I wasnโ€™t ready to start on Forever. I wasn’t ready to say goodbye to Sam and Grace, and Cole and Isabel. I didn’t want the series to end!

Quite simply, I just wasnโ€™t ready.

And then we were asked by Scholastic to review the book and since I had a brand spanking new ARC and had already read Shiver and Linger, I bit the bullet and started.

*heart thuds and swells with joy*

Iโ€™m going to try to write this Forever spoiler free because thatโ€™s how I roll, but I just want to say Maggie Steifvater delivered! I have to borrow from one of the comments of our Shiver/Linger post, but she writes with such grace! I was trying to figure how she writes so effortlessly โ€“ or what exactly it is she does to make storytelling so easyโ€ฆand I canโ€™t quite figure it out. But itโ€™s something like this. When you start reading, you forget youโ€™re reading. You just dive in and watch these characters do their thing. Most of the time the events that unfold are unexpected, and every now and again she writes a sentence or paragraph that I have to reread because it takes my breath away. That is the only time I remember that Iโ€™m reading a story and not just experiencing it.

So back to our friends at Mercy Falls. Grace is off wolfing it up and Sam is alone โ€“ except for a rather neurotic, and completely smitten with Isabel, Cole. The back and forth of Grace phasing and trying to get back home might be one of my most favorite parts of the book. Once again Stiefvater uses small chapters with individual points of view, so we get to see whatโ€™s going on in Sam, Cole, Grace and Isabelโ€™s head. While Sam and Grace are trying to work it all out and find each other, Cole is trying to figure out a cure and cause of the Wolf, while Isabel is trying to figure out a cure for Cole. And looming all over them are mysterious wolf attacks that are the last straw for Isabelโ€™s dad and his lawmaking cronies.

The romantic and coming of age story between Sam and Grace puts that butterfly feeling right in your gut, and made me weepy hoping that they get their happy ending. But again it wasnโ€™t just what happened throughout the book that made me sigh or freak out and even put my book down for a minute to chill out (though no throwing!) it all went back to the magnificent storytelling that made me believe without a doubt that there might be wolves pacing in my backyard.

Grace said about Sam, โ€œWhen we kissed, it didnโ€™t matter that I had been a wolf hours ago, or that I would be a wolf again. It didnโ€™t matter that a thousand snares were laid out for us as soon as we left this moment. All that mattered was this: our noses touching, the softness of his mouth, the ache inside me.โ€

I loved the story, the unfolding of secrets, the adventure, and growing up and changing that the characters went through but it always come back to Sam and Grace for me. What can I say; Iโ€™m a big olโ€™ softy.

  6. It sounds like everyone is pretty happy with the conclusion. I'm always worried about endings. Sometimes they're such a let down, and other times they're just done so perfectly. My sister LOVES this series, so if I won the copy I'd be giving it to her. Thanks for the opportunity!

I'm so glad you liked it! I read a very opposite review on a different post that left me iffy about reading it. But since I need to know what happens and I need to know about the HEA, and I'll be very upset if there isn't one, I'll have to read it!

  11. What an amazing review, Kristen!!! I have not finished Linger yet (although I'm almost half-way through and very much enjoying it) but I don't think your review is spoilery at all (but you know how high my tolerance is). I love how you really nail how this series FEELS to you. You've made me want to run back to my iPod to listen to some more. Thanks so much for sharing and good luck to everyone who enters the give away!!! *hugs*
