S.O.S!

Posted 1 June, 2011 by Danny in Uncategorized / 13 Comments

So, it’s that time of year where I wonder what am I going to get hooked on and read this summer. Or do I simply grab from my bookshelves and read all my Harry Potter books, or maybe the Twilight saga (don’t judge) or maybe even The Hobbit, followed by the Lord of the Rings series?

For the first time I feel so overwhelmed by all our great reviews, my extremely neglected Goodreads to-read list and the desire to just plop down with an old favorite because I can’t bother to mess with the new hold system at our library.

What is a girl to do?

So please, my dear readers, can you tell me what book I need to grab RIGHT NOW THIS INSTANT because it’s so good, or pretty good and cheap for the Kindle, or should I just resist the shiny new “IT” books and enjoy rereading an old favorite (*cough* The Hunger Games *cough*).

I have no idea what to do……

Ash, by Malinda Lo. A Discovery of Witches by Deborah Harkness. Anything by Jasper Fforde (Thursday Next, Nursery Crime, Shades of Grey for that dystopian feel). The Discworld series by Terry Pratchett. Any of Georgette Heyer's Regency novels (her mysteries are kind of "eh"). Hope you find something you love!

  2. I hear Divergent is a close second to the epicness that is Hunger Games. I just read Shade & Shift by Jeri Smith-Ready and LOVED them! I also loved Chime by Franny Billingsley; that one is so unique & clever 🙂

I shall return if I think of any others, lol.

This non dystopian lovin girl is lovin Divergent! I also loved Ruby Red, alot!! Starcrossed if you haven't read it is awesome! Did you read the Wicked Lovely Series? The third in the Fallen series is coming out soon if you haven't read Fallen and Torment. Definitely Shade and Shift! I've read nothing but good things about the Waterfall series by Lisa T. Bergen. The first two are out Waterfall and Cascade and the next is due out later this year. Small Review is doing a giveaway of Cascade right now.

    Hope that helps!

I feel your pain! There are so many books on my TBR shelf, but I'm really feeling the pull to read some of my old favorites(yes, Twilight is among them!). Maybe devote a month of the summer to re-reading old favorites? Have you read Rot & Ruin by Jonathan Maberry? There are 2 in the series so far. They are zombie apocalypse books. VERY GOOD, if you like that sort of thing. And I noticed that one of you Bookworms scored a copy of Forever by Maggie Stiefvater, if you haven't read those you may want to start. Happy Reading!!

The Faerie Path series by Frewin Jones. They were so addicting for me and everyone I know that has read them. They are all out so there would be no waiting for the next book. I couldn't put them down. I'll send them to you if you send me the addy to send them. I just know you would love them. 🙂

Mercy Thompson series by Patricia Briggs. Well, anything by her. October Daye series by Seanan McGuire. Sirantha Jax series by Ann Aguirre. Kate Daniels series by Ilona Andrews. You should definitely try these. 🙂

  7. Do you like Italian hotties, time travel, intense battles, and super kick butt women? Read Waterfall by Lisa T. Bergren. It is fantastic! Seriously, I still can't get over how much I love this series. Totally a "where have you been all my life?!?!?" kinda thing. You can even enter to win a copy of the sequel Cascade. The final book comes out in September, so you wouldn't have very long to wait either.

  8. OMG. Just my words exactly. I had the same problem. There are so many new books out there, but at the same so many classics.
So I decided to try to re-read some of my favorites and then hopefully get to read some of the new ones.
Hoping to get to read the Harry Potter series, Black Dagger Brotherhood series. And as new books hopefully The Hunger Games, Divergent and Die for me etc. There are just so many.

Looking forward to see what you decide to read 🙂
    Good look. Happy reading !
