Indie Spyglass: Character Interview With Raven Grace from Raven’s Kiss by Toni LoTempio

Posted 14 June, 2011 by Danny in / 0 Comments

Welcome to another installment of Indie Spyglass, where we feature the work of Indie authors and get to know a little more about them in the process. Today, we’re featuring a character interview with Raven Grace, the female lead from Toni LoTempio’s latest urban fantasy/paranormal romance Raven’s Kiss (my 4 1/2 star review here, Goodreads, Amazon, Barnes and Noble). This is a great read and is only 99 cents. Seriously, read this character interview, click on over and buy this book. I loved it and I hope you do too! I virtually sat down with Raven and picked her brain about what life is like for a crime fighting, butt kicking shape shifter.

Heather: Welcome, Raven. Thanks for taking the time to chat, so let’s jump right in. Now that you’ve been a shapeshifter for a few years, what do you like most about your abilities?

Raven: The element of surprise. It’s always fun to see someone’s expression change when they’re looking at me and suddenly…they’re looking at a lion, or a bear, or whatever.

Heather: What’s the biggest pain?

Raven: hah – the stiff joints after I transform. Gets me every time

Heather: What is your favorite animal to shift into?

Raven: I love the big cats 🙂 the bigger the better. They’re sleek and fast on their feet.

Heather: Least favorite?

Raven: A Go-Roo – half gorilla, half kangaroo. Think about it. 🙂

Heather: The top half must be gorilla and the bottom kangaroo, right? I don’t think it would be very scary or powerful if it were reversed. Ever get the order mixed up?

Raven: Thankfully, no! Could you imagine if that happened? A cute little kangaroo face with big, hairy gorilla feet – sheesh!

Heather: Haha, I was thinking more about how ineffective those tiny kangaroo arms would be!

As an agent for the Recovery Operation, you have to keep the supernatural creatures and humans in your city in check. Is being an agent all that you thought it would be?

Raven: I always wanted a career in law enforcement, so yes, from that aspect, it is. I honestly never imagined myself chasing after evil wizards, vampires, demons and the lot, but…it certainly keeps me on my toes!

Heather: I hear you love foreign accents. I personally have a soft spot for an Irish brogue, myself. What country’s dialect instantly captures your attention?

Raven: Well, I love Irish brogues’ (Finn would kill me if I did not say that) but I have to confess to a secret weakness for an Aussie accent. Every time Hugh Jackman opens his mouth I just swoon!

Heather: You got me there. I love Aussie accents’ too. Anything but the typical American accent is so lovely to hear.

You have to team up with parallel world Recovery Operation Agent Finn McPhee to stop the demon, who turned you into a shapeshifter, from slaughtering other women. What was he like to work with?

Raven: Finn is the perfect partner – considerate, caring, interested in my own happiness before his own…oh,you meant doing investigative work!? Well…pretty much the same. He’s a thorough guy…in every way. 🙂

Heather: What did your partner George think about you working with someone else?

Raven: George and I have always had a brother – sister relationship, so he’s all for a Finn/Raven pairing. He thinks Finn’s good for me. Although he does miss my arguments with Hedy, though. He used to get a real kick out of those.

Heather: If you could be human again, would you go back and what would you do with your life?

Raven: I’ve learned not to dwell on what might have been – particularly since Finn’s come into my life – but I probably would be in some type of law enforcement, whether I were a shifter or not.

Heather: Thanks for not stunning me for asking such invasive questions.

Raven: You are lucky – I left my stunner home.

There you have it, a little glimpse into Raven. She’s a really strong woman, able to deal with being a shapeshifter, cop, and fight supernaturals who break the law — all while finding her soulmate.

Do you want to win a digital copy of Raven’s KissAll you have to do is leave a comment below telling us what kind of animal you’d shapeshift into if you could. I’ll just pull your email address off of the Intense Debates comment that I receive in my email inbox.
