In Beatrice Prior’s dystopian Chicago, society is divided into five factions, each dedicated to the cultivation of a particular virtue—Candor (the honest), Abnegation (the selfless), Dauntless (the brave), Amity (the peaceful), and Erudite (the intelligent). On an appointed day of every year, all sixteen-year-olds must select the faction to which they will devote the rest of their lives. For Beatrice, the decision is between staying with her family and being who she really is—she can’t have both. So she makes a choice that surprises everyone, including herself.

During the highly competitive initiation that follows, Beatrice renames herself Tris and struggles to determine who her friends really are—and where, exactly, a romance with a sometimes fascinating, sometimes infuriating boy fits into the life she’s chosen. But Tris also has a secret, one she’s kept hidden from everyone because she’s been warned it can mean death. And as she discovers a growing conflict that threatens to unravel her seemingly perfect society, she also learns that her secret might help her save those she loves . . . or it might destroy her.

Debut author Veronica Roth bursts onto the literary scene with the first book in the Divergent series—dystopian thrillers filled with electrifying decisions, heartbreaking betrayals, stunning consequences, and unexpected romance.

Stunning…

Wow, I’m stunned. I absolutely loved this book and enjoyed every page. It truly seems like more and more Dystopian novels are coming out every day, but when it’s a novel Like DIVERGENT I don’t mind a bit.

Society is divided into fractions, fractions that are based on different virtues. Honesty, Braveness, Intelligence, Peace and Selfishness. Normally people born and raised in one fractions stay in their fraction, but when they turn 16 they get evaluated and can choose a fraction according to a test.

So shortly after Tris’s 16 birthday she gets tested and something weird happens and in the end Tris decides for (…)  and has to leave her family behind to get through the initiation tests. Those tests are hard and take everything from Tris and soon it is also a matter of survival.

Fast Page Turner you won’t be able to put down!

The whole story was extremely captivating and I found myself turning pages and pages while following Tris journey in becoming of the Dauntless. We follow her growing up and beyond herself during this process. The way Mrs. Roth developed this brave girl was wonderful! I also loved the friendship between Tris and some of her fellow initiates. I enjoyed the way to see this friendship grow but also not effortless, each of them came with flaws which made it even more real to me.

Love, Romance and Kissing… Oh my.. the LOVE!!!

I loved loved the LOVE in the story, the romance was beautiful and earnest. I need a good amount of romance and kissing, oh yes definitely kissing!

But the plot was also really well developed! You got hinds after hinds that something is up and there is more to come but when it finally happens you will gasp for air. It was shocking and Mrs Roth doesn’t spare us big heartbreak, for which I adore her. A book needs to trigger emotion – and this novel is truly emotional towards the end.

Bottom Line

An extremely well written, enthralling and absolutely shocking Dystopian novel with heartbreak, love and loss. Divergent has everything you need in a good novel and truly- you don’t want to miss this book!  It comes out tomorrow so go and pre order it, you need to read this book – seriously…  This is definitely one of those books that life up to the hype that is generated … Can I say again how very much I loved and adored this book….

  1. I really enjoy your review(although it's a bit spoilery) because I loved Divergent as much as you did! I never expected it to be that good. Tris is such an adorable and honest character and the boy…*sigh* I'd name my child after him if it didn't sound so weird in real life:D
How will we survive the wait for book two in the Divergent series?!
