Welcome to the Beautiful Darkness Book Discussion Recap!! Thank you so much to everyone who stopped by this week’s discussion post and left an answer. We are particularly excited to see that some of you are planning to read along with the discussion here. *happy dance*

If you haven’t had a chance to read this week’s discussion post by Suzie from I Adore Books & Film, you can find it here. And all the information about the discussion (complete with the schedule of chapters and dates) and it’s accompanying contest, is available here.

This week’s discussion question was:

Considering that Ridley
tried to have Ethan’s father jump that fateful night,
do you think Ethan feels any sort of betrayal from Lena
for allowing Ridley back into her life?

Seriously! Ridley did a number on more than just Ethan’s dad.
And now she and Lena are best buds again???? Doesn’t seem kosher, does it?

Everyone agreed this would be tough for Ethan.

Elizabeth said:

I definitely think that Ethan feels betrayed. Ridley did attempt to kill his father.Plus, she has not been a very trustworthy person, and Ethan knows this. Of course it would only be natural for him to feel betrayed especially when Lena would rather talk to Ridley than him.

Britta agreed, but only to a point:

I do not think that Ethan feels so much betrayed as he does shocked. He probably doesn’t understand why she would do such a thing, it is most likely unfathomable. I think feels more betrayed by the fact that she is hanging out with John Breed than by that she is hanging out with Ridley. Ethan knows of Lena’s soft spot for her. He knows that she wasn’t always Dark and she used to be Lena’s best friend.

Caroline pointed out that Ethan would feel betrayed on multiple levels:

I’m sure Ethan does feel betrayed. Not only because Ridley tried to make his father commit suicide but because she had repeatedly tricked Ethan. I think Ethan is probably hurt that Lena would shut him out and not someone who was a threat to her whole family. Even the fact that Ridley had broken Link’s heart after tricking him into falling for her would be enough for Ethan to be upset by Lena’s reforged bond with Ridley.

And Danny cut to the heart of it:

This is absolutely tough for Ethan. In fact Ridley messed with everyone and of course Ethan feels betrayed and shocked.

But, I think it’s not just that, it’s also his worst fear – that Lena will turn Darker and Darker the more she hangs out with Ridley and of course John. I think they are a bad influence and I believe Ethan thinks the same, so I’d say his fears for Lena are stronger than feeling betrayed.

Great answers! We’re glad you stopped by and commented!
