Hooray for Fridays!!!!

TGIF!!! Which of course means that it’s time for the BlogHop and the Follow Friday and a review of we did this week!

Let’s start with Jen’s Blog Hop.

She is so wonderful for hosting this event every week! Thanks so much, Jen, for all your work!!! This week Christina from The Paperback Princesses asks:

When you read a book that you just can’t get into,
do you stick it out and keep reading
or move to your next title?

As sad as it is, not every book lives up to our expectations. I think this is particularly sad when I’m really hyped up about a book and then it just fizzles before my eyes. The question about sticking it out, though, depends on a couple of things.

First, am I reading for fun or because I was given the book for review? If it’s just a book I picked up because I loved the cover or got a recommendation from a friend and it doesn’t keep my interest, I usually just put it to the side and move onto one of the many other titles in my TBR pile. If it’s a book I’ve been given for review, though, I soldier on, trying to find the things I can like about it: is the writing particularly good despite the fact that the story’s just not grabbing me? Are there characters I can enjoy even if not every single word makes me sing? Stuff like that.

Second, even if it’s a book I’ve been given for review, there are occasions where I just can’t finish a book. This is primarily because I either find the writing sub-par or the characters are all so odious I just can’t find anything redeeming in the book. In cases like this, I’d rather stop reading than force myself to finish. There’s just too many other good books to review.

Fortunately this second case is pretty rare and almost every book I read has something to love about it.

Thanks, Christina and Jen, for the great question and the awesome hop!!!

Parajunkee is also running a Follow Friday meme that we love. This week she’s featuring Christin and Louise from Between the Covers. This week’s question is:

What is your reading suggestion this week?

For me it’s Beautiful Darkness hands down! I have been waiting for this book to release for MONTHS and I’m so happy I have it in my little hands to re-read.

We love networking so much! So please stop by both Parajunky’s and Amy and Jennifer’s sites as well and see who else is out and about doing the book blog networking thing!

Finally, we’d love to take the opportunity to welcome all the new faces and the old ones too! *waves* Glad you are here and we hope you like it here at the Bewitched Bookworms.

  1. o/ Yay! Friday! I just ordered Beautiful Darkness. Of course now I'm kicking myself cause the stupid book is taking SO long to get here and it seems like every store I go to now has the book sitting out on the front shelves just taunting me that I don't have my copy yet.
    Stupid books!
No! Wait! I didn't mean it! I love you books!

…omg I think I need to go back to bed…

    Hop on by! 😀

  3. Just hoppin’ on by <3 I'm an old follower 🙂

I usually stick books out, even if it annoys me like crazy. I like giving fair chances to books, and I feel incomplete if I don’t finish it. I’ve even stuck it through an entire series I absolutely hated. Maybe it’s just me being weird.

  4. Happy Follow Friday!!! Hope you will stop by my blog too! My publisher and I are looking for a group of bloggers for a huge blog tour next year before the release of book two in my 'A Sense of Truth' series! We will be giving out a few more copies of The Thirteenth Chime (we can only give out so many, being open to e-books gives an upper hand) and are still open to all interviews and guest posts. We want to fill up the Amazon page with reviews and try to reach as many people as we can!!! Hope you might consider being a part of the team! Thank you either way!

    Sincerely,

  5. LMAO!!!! Straylights, I totally understand what you're saying. I pre-ordered my copy months ago from Amazon but I'm too cheap to pay for the better shipping so I had to wait too while all my friends got their Kindle versions right away. But it's in my hands now. *phew* Have a great weekend!!!!

  6. This was my problem with Wondla, I was *so* psyched for this book and found it just falling so far short of my expectations that I was really let down. Will I read the second one? I don't know, maybe. It was such a struggle to get through the first!

Stop by and check out my Blog Hop and Follow Friday HERE!
