Let Me Count The Ways

I just finished reading a fantastic book!

Upon reflection, I think what I loved the most was how refreshing it was.
The book is The Body Finder.
The author is Kimberly Derting.
And the following are five reasons I adored it sofa king much.

A blurp about the book:

1. The Girl With The Morbid Ability

(pic taken from the book’s trailer)
The main character Violet is sweet and endearing.
She’s spunky, stubborn, and a little overly dense at times.
But overall she is not led to extreme emo flights of stupidity.
She comes across as your average teenage girl with a remarkable
ability that she doesn’t let control her life or makes her feel like an outsider.
She doesn’t sit in a corner feeling badly for herself but has functioning
relationships. Furthermore, while she does put herself in danger,
she also realizes the errors of her ways and doesn’t fight those
who love her when they beg her to be responsible.
She can admit her wrongs.
All these things made me adore her.
Root for her.
And long for her happily ever after.

2. The Boy Who Would Never Let
Anything Happen to Her

(pic taken from the book’s trailer)
Violet’s best friend is Jay.
He’s a witty, playful, intelligent, smart-ass man-boy.
He’s as far from an emo emotional mess as you can get.
And I LOVED him for it.
He’s the kind of boy you dream of your daughter bring home
(heck, the kind of boy you want to take home for your self!).
Oblivious and attentive.
Possessive and gentle.
Goofy and romantic.
Smexy and dorky.
He is a great mix of everything that sets a girl’s heart racing.
Geez… I’ve got it bad for this boy.

3. The Serial Killer on the Loose

(pic taken from the book’s trailer)
Woven throughout the novel are super natural twists and turns
that keep you guess. With side chapters dedicated to the musings of
a serial killer the novel is most definitely creepy.
I love a great murder mystery novel
and The Body Finder definitely delivers.
Complete with a creepy serial killer,
a girl who can sense the echos of the dead,
and a young man hell bent on protecting the girl he loves
The Body Finder is full of intensity!
As Melissa Marr (Wicked Lovely) said:

“The romance and the mystery in The Body Finder were so intense that
I didn’t know whether to hold my breath or scream. I
did know I wouldn’t be getting
anything done until I read the whole book.”

I completely agree with this statement!
I could not put this novel down.
I felt an acute sense of foreboding while reading it.
There were moments when the author completely messed with my head.

4. Home Sweet Home

(Mount Rainer)
One of the main things I adored was how much Violet
loved her family and they in returned loved her.
Not only that but they are her rock.
The people she leans on the most.
At one point she reflects on how good it is to turn to them,
to know they are there for her.
In return, the parents are solid, aware of their daughter’s life
and doing everything they can to protect her.
So often when I am reading a novel the parental figures drive me crazy.
Case in point: Twilight.
I can’t tell you how many times I wanted to punch Charlie
and give Renee a blistering lecture on parenting.
On the other side of this is the sons or daughters
complete lack of trust or faith in their own family.
Which most of the time is completely understandable!
While reading The Body Finder I was impressed with the author’s
decision to veer away from the screwed up family model and go with
a tried and true loving family. Not perfect by any stretch of the imagination.
Just, for lack of a better word, wholesome in a completely endearing way.

5. True Love

(pic taken from the book’s trailer)
The build up of Violet and Jay’s relationship is wonderful.
Long time friends turned *sighs*…
How many times does the best friend get screwed in the end
when the girl falls for the dark, foreboding new kid?
From the beginning I felt these two truly did love one another.
The most beautiful part?
It was a love that build over time.
Established on trust, friendship, and caring.
When the dam of desire did finally break….*gulps*
Let’s just say I’ve been reading a few sections over and over
and over and over… and over again…
Swoon-worthy.

Bonus:

Double Bonus:
What’s this you say?!
A double bonus is unheard of?!
I KNOW!
But I have some exciting news, my friends.

In closing:
I really, really, really enjoyed this novel.
Like a looooooooot.
It definitely deserves 5 stacks of bewitched books all in a row.

It was a great mix of romance, suspense, and the super natural.
I would highly recommend this book to just about everyone.
Tis what I know and what I’ve got.
Happy Reading y’all!!
Until next time-
Yours truly,

  4. Me too! I am very excited about the second book coming out. Lately when I find out a book is apart of a series I give a little groan of dismay (which is normally overpowered by a squeal of excitement *winks*). But when I found out about a second Body Finder book I just got super happy! She's a great writer. Thank you for the comment!

  5. For a while all I read was Mary Higgins Clark and I do like that a lot of romance novelist have started to branch out into the whole murder mystery romance thing. I LOVE Julie Garwood's newest stuff. Granted some of it isn't the best, but overall I adore it.

Cutie, what an awesome review. I loved the book! I agree with you up to a point about the parents and family being there for Violet. Not sure if I'd want my son alone in a room with his girlfriend. Couldn't trust him to stop like Jay!
If you haven't read this book yet, go find it. It is beautiful, creepy, and suspenseful.

  7. I totally agree! I never understood if the parents didn't realize or just trusted them? hmmm… Maybe that will come up in the second book? And that's one of the reasons I said they weren't perfect. 😉 It's a fantastic book! Thanks for the comment!!

Hopping through the book blogs, but yeah I actually stop in different places to comment.:) Well mostly because I am looking for good books. I have picky taste. Romance, but not too much romance. Throw in a serial killer. Yeah, this might be a good one. I'll watch out for it.:)
